• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

Trio in C

Hi !
I am glad to present you my latest organ work : a Trio in C major (duration ~4 mn).

I have no idea for the best registration. First I played it with only one manual (version 10) and I liked the very soft sounds of bourdon and flute. Finally I recorded it again with two manuals, one with 8'- 4' 2' soft stops , the other with voix humaine or régale 8' (version 13). But in fact, I still prefer version 10.

Please, tell me which registration you prefer, or suggest me a new registration.

I have added also the midifile on my site for those who would like to try registration by themsef and the *.myr file for Harmony-assistant users.

The score and the MP3 are at : http://musicalis.monespace.net/pages/51.html

Cheers. J-Paul

Hi !
Sorry, there was a small mistake, version 10 and 13 were the same. Now it is repaired.

Unfortunately, I would not be any good to help you determine the best registration or any of that technical stuff, but I will gladly listen to it when I get home :)

P.S. (and totally off topic) - you appear to be very...angry/not happy in that picture...

Hi Musicalis,
I like the picture very much. Tomorrow my girls' choir is going to practise your "Baptismal Hymn", and I'll show them your photo.

lols, Musicalis, I hope you didnt take my little note as bashing of your picture, lols. Im pretty sure you were not offended by it, but just to make sure.....the intent was not to hurt your feelings ;)

But, we have diverged. So, back to the topic - I like your trio in C major a lot. I actually like the version 13 better. I have no decent explanation of that, other than I think that that version lets the music shine through a little better.

Jean-Paul,

Another delightful and cheerful creation here. I rather like the contrast in v.13, but most likely if I performed this on my church instrument I would use v.10 as I lack the Regal stop in my specification. Keep up the grand work ... you are a very gifted composer.
