Backwards and Forwards

We cannot predict the future with any certainty, but what effect do you think the internet will have on the future of music genres? Will any one genre dominate any time in the future? Or has that become impossible? Also, how will it effect musicianship?

These days, everyone can listen to pretty much any genre of music from any time period instantly. It has already changed the way people listen to music; I meet young folks who enjoy old music on a regular basis now, and people go back and forth through time, listening to the music of all eras. Musicians can hear any style any time immediately as well; how will that effect how, and what they play?

thats a very interesting topic, I think there is a thread on this forum which somewhat resembles the topic (its on effect of internet on music/musicians). I cant even comment on that right away - it requires some thinking

Great topic for discussion, Rojo ...

I think that because of all the easy manners that every genre of music can be accessed these days, that no one particular venue of music will come out ahead of the other - in fact, if one does, I would predict it would be Classical music. The old I-IV-V-I chord progressions of the rockers is getting stale - some are delving into 'manipulated' classical compositions and possibly calling it Mozart Rock or something similar.

I know from my own standpoint, that I listen to much more music at home than ever before - I fire up Rhapsody (sorry, only available in the US and it's possessions) and get streaming audio of any of my favorite genre's of music.

I'm waiting to see how long it takes for Byzantine Barbershop to emerge ...
