amont1 - you'll pick it up here (amongst other things).

www.cdsheetmusic.com and then search for Organ, then you'll see French organ music. It's a cheap edition, comes on a CD and you simply print off the PDF. I know that some of the editions used in this are not urtext or the final chosen by the composer. The Franck seem fine to me.

Thank you. I have the sheet music, but I just wanted to see if mine was written correctly. My music does not have any notes for the pedal, but martin Jean on youtube uses the pedals throughout the entire piece.

I assume, as your copy doesn't have pedal parts, that it's not the correct music. There was a time (Bach for example) when the pedal was printed on the lower staff, but not in the 19th century. Unless it's a transcription for piano (erk).

The opening pages of my edition of this chorale doesn't have a pedal staff either. The use of the pedal is to assist the organists who can't span the octave and a third with one hand - no pedal stops are drawn, the manuals are coupled to the pedal.

When the next section begins, the pedal line is scored.

My organ music files are at church, so I can't check the edition or publisher - will find out on my next trip and relate this back here.

Pedals don't come in until about the 4th page, where the variation on the main theme starts to be solo'd out.

I have wondered about putting the pedal in, and have tried it, but the feel and sense of how the chords prgress through in those opening pages on the 8' foundation theme first makes much more sense played solely in the manuals without them being assisted in the pedals. Later in the Chorale, there are places where the base is duplicated in the left hand and pedals. One might wonder why this would be and what effect it might have, but if the pedals aren't coupled then it makes complete sense, since the difference in the Bass sound between the doubled and undoubled parts becomes and interesting feature. It is something I've been playing around with recently on one of the organs I get to play.
