favorite music movies

What music movies do you like? Do you think they are pretty accurate? I mean movies based on composers, ballet, opera singers, musicians. I saw a movie called the Red Shoes(a ballet movie made in 1948) and I was wondering if people really were that way. I mean the dancers, directors, other people connected with a production.

I really enjoyed THE LEGEND OF 1900...I haven't found out...or I haven't made the effort to find out its validity...but I love the story.

I also like THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.

The soundtrack "From Dusk til Dawn" takes some beating......ok, that's straining the limits of the question, it's not really a music movie despite having a live band in the main setting, it's a Tarantino bloodfest so maybe I should wind my neck in...
I dunno. Amadeus was a bit of a pill. That one with Gary Oldman as Beethoven had some style, but then, I'll watch almost anything with Gary Oldman in it.
I must admit I adore music IN movies. I love the interplay of action and music.
Again, low brow, but the house music in the Blade movies really sets the pulses racing. Wouldn't listen to it that much outside of a movie but it certainly fits the bill.
Can't think of a movie that uses 'known' classical music, but love the movie music that has become classic.

I think Amadeus is the closest I've come to liking any movie about music. The rest I really can't stand. The Pianist would probably be up there, but I have only seen the first 30 or 40 minutes (my wife made me turn it off when the child was being beaten under the wall).

It seems like I have the most distaste for the movies from Hollywood that are about the uplifting and transformational spirit of music (Mr. Holland, Music of the Heart, etc.).

Actually, the remake of the comedy "Unfaithfully Yours" I enjoy--the actors being musicians are awful but the tone of the film makes it all tolerable.

Anyone see that one about the French baroque Viol composer/player? I'm blanking on his name ATM, and I can't remember what it was called - drat!

I prefer the music to "The Mission" starring Robert Di Nero and the english actor, who acts the jesuit priest in those deep mountains among the savage indians, whose name I never can remember.

Also the music to "Dancing with Wolfes" by director and lead actor Kevin Costner, composer John Barry.

Then the music to "West Side Story", by the late composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein.

The music to "Once Apun A Time In America", by director Sergio Leone, composer Ennio Morricone.

"The Deerhunter", by director Michael Cimino, composer Stanley Myers and John Williams.

"The Last Samurai", by director Edward Zwick, composer - can´t remember?

The music to all 3 "Godfather" films, probably Ennio Morricone as well, but I don´t know?

I like Greig, so "Song of Norway" was a good film for me. Also liked "Amadeus"

Am not sure how accurate they were though.

Have enjoyed musicals like "Sound of music" and "South Pacific"
