    Mozart in Denmark?

I'm just listening to a delightful Mozart sinfonia K16A called the Odense, I assume that Leopold had dragged the poor wretch to Denmark as part of one of their horrendous European tours? I can't imagine the nickname has anything to do with a certain Danish God?? (Odin)

    Hi Contra.

This is interesting. (me being a dane) I can't imagine this being a tribute to Odin, I have to find out what lies behind if I can. If he has indeed been to Odense, it has been his tour from hell. At his time Denmark was Copenhagen, and everything else was basically the sticks. But gee, Odense attracts personalities I must say (Carl Nielsen and Hans Christian Andersen were from Funen, where Odense is "the capital")

I have this faint recollection that Constanze Mozart married a Dane not long after Wolfgang Amadei reposed.

Sweet Corn, she did indeed. She married Georg Nissen, who was at the time the Danish Ambassador in Vienna. She then moved from Vienna to Copenhagen, and was "twice perfectly happy". They took Mozart's son, Siegfried with them also.

Twice Perfectly Happy, being the English title of a translation of a wonderful Danish book that my old Danish teacher gave me years ago ... sigh.
