I was inside the Notre Dame Church the last time during the summer of 1990. Itīs incredibly big. Itīs such a great work from the architects, and the two towers are much taller than they seem on the photograph. Very beautiful church indeed.

Hauntingly beautiful ... I can certainly understand the inspiration one can get from just looking at this picture. I am always amazed at how meaningful a B&W photograph can be. If this were in colour, it would lose so much of its dramatic point.

I envy those of you who reside in Europe ... all these great places with centuries of history all within relatively close proximity. Someday, I'll get over there ... someday.

    Hi Master Krummhorn,

When I look at this screen shot I hear Messiaen's "L'apparition De L'Eglise Eternelle" = "Apparition Of The Church Eternal".

    Cheers,

Some day you will. But for the time being, Iīll send you some lyrics for you to remember for this future quest of going to Europe:

    Somewhere over the rainbow
    Way up high
    There's a land that I heard of
    Once in a lullaby

    Somewhere over the rainbow
    Skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream
    Really do come true

Some day I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
    Away above the chimney tops
    That's where you'll find me

    Somewhere over the rainbow
    Bluebirds fly
    Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then oh why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly BEYOND
the rainbow why oh why can't I...".

    Some day my friend....

    Best regards,

It is very pretty. Notre Dame does look like a big castle instead of a
    church. Beautiful!

That is a lovely photo, I haven't been to Paris for some time.

    Thank you for sharing that.

    Hi Ms. Margaret,

There can be so much drama in a B&W photo - Man, the mind reels.......

    "A big castle"?
Hmmm - I wonder which castle that would be? Castles would inconceivably have a long nave section like Notre-Dame, since that would be a very weak "link" from a defense point of view.

    Hi CD

I so agree with you, I think black and white photos leave a little to the imagination, without leaving anything out. If that makes sense, very atmospheric.

That image is phenomenal! I had chills run down my spine. I saw the Notre Dame on my recent trip, but seeing this pic was a whole new experience - like seeing something totally different.

That picture also has me thinking about the House of Congress in
the Capital building in D.C. or the White House.

    Master Krummhorn, youīre welcome.

The thing is. Remember, I told you on a pm about the link, I looked for for Mat about rainbows and strange clouds, hurricanes, sun sets etc.etc. There was one image among those, I finally entered the link from - A spectacular huge rainbow.

So when I cut and pasted the lyrics from "Over The Rainbow", in my mind I thought of this spectacular huge rainbow, with one leg near your home in Arizona, but disappearing up into the sky in the heavens, and then 6000 miles away from your home, the same rainbow, visually reappearing with the other leg in Denmark.
