• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

Hi Greg,

Are you looking for a recital-type setting of that hymn? Gosh, I don't know of one. Our highly esteemed forum member "Giwro" might be able to help. Our forum moderator "Krummhorn" is a wellspring of info - He might know of a publishing house that may carry what you seek.

Cheers,

Hi
If you have a score of 'softly and tenderly Jesus is calling' and if you can send it to me, may be I can write a variation for you (for free). But this week I'll be very busy.

What a genuine offer, Jean-Paul ...
The common hymntune is "Thompson" (meter: 11 7 11 7 and refrain) - Music composed by Will L. Thompson (1847-1909) and should be in most church hymnals.

OK Krumhorn

But I have not been playing at the office for several years and catholic hymns are not the same than anglican or american hymns, Sometime also, the musics iare the same but the name is very different.
SO I HAVE NOT THIS BOOK

Hi JP, I will be very thankful if you can assist... Unfortunately our scanner at the office can no longer scan -some IP address conflict... I have tried to save a copy as NWC but it failed... I am including the internet site address. I hope it will work. http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/s/o/softlyat.htm

Once again all I can say is "THANK YOU, THANK YOU and THANK YOU.

I am looking forward to play your variation in church.

"A THANK YOU IS THE KEY TO THE HEART OF THE BENEFACTOR"

Yours in appreciation
Greg

Variation is ready

Hi Greg

The first variation is ready.
You can finf it : PDF and MP3 (with virtual Cavaillé-Coll and Sir reverb) at :

Now I will have a look to your PDF and if I have some time write a second variation.

This first variation is for a single manual organ and is very easy to play as I do not know if you can play piece more difficult. First passage is only montre 8' and flute 8'. Second passage, flute 4' is added.

If one day you can play and record one of my musics, I'll be happy to receive a MP3 performed on a true organ.

Hi JP,
I downloaded the pdf attachment and could not get the mp3... I am looking to play it at home tonight. I really appreciate you writing a variation for me... Unfortunately we only have a electronic organ at church.... i will have to visit one of our other congregations to make a recording for you...

Once again, THANK YOU, DANKIE

Very nice arrangement, J-Paul - Just played it through on my piano at home, and now anxious to play it at church on Thursday afternoon when I do my normal weekly practicing. I'll take along my Zoom H4 and see and try recording it.

I'm totally impressed with the speed that you are able to churn these out with. And in what appears to be a "single take" from your thoughts to the engraved score. Couple this with never having seen, nor perhaps even heard, this hymntune before. Very impressive J-Paul ... very impressive, indeed.

I'm going to have a busier than usual practice session on Thursday.

For my taste of preference for keys, I like the A flat version for organ solo ... for congregational singing we try to keep the top line out of the stratsophere.

Dear Master Krummhorn,

J.P. is certainly a diamond in the crown of MIMF. I detect in him a broad streak of compositional genius. What an honor to have him aboard our gracious ship.

Cheers,

Hi JP, my heart is filled with thankfulness towards your heart and music... I have no words when I listen to the MP3's... I LOVE all 3 variations... I am looking forward to start practicing... Our 11 months old son loves classical music... when I played the variations for him... I could see that he was also enjoying it... thank you for also sharing some music with him... PLEASE arrange another variation for me in A flat major with the melody in the RH...

Once again... THANK YOU, THANK YOU and THANK YOU and also THANK YOU to ALL who inspires me by sharing their thoughts and compositions...

I enjoy playing music like Amazing grace, how great Thou art, etc...

God Bless!
