• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

Strange Wedding Music Request...

Corno Dolce

Admiral Honkenwheezenpooferspieler
Dear MIMFers,

I recently received an organ transcription of the theme from the Magnificent Seven from a couple who want it performed as the recessional music at their wedding in August. The groom is an organist and composer from Shanghai and the bride is from Seoul. Man, this takes the cake for highly original wedding music. The couple wants a Western Themed Wedding - Whew! Its a very tricky piece but the groom has successfully grasped the orchestral score and transcribed it for organ.

I'm listening to this Orchestral version:

Wow CD, that is something different to have to play at a wedding. Perhaps they would like the wedding cake with the gun on it.

Not one of the ususal requests you get I expect. What are they going to do, ride down the aisle on horses, and go on honeymoon in a stagecoach?

I wish you well playing that on the organ, but I expect you will master it with your usual flair.

What kind of music did they want at the reception music from Bonanza?
Or did they ask for a hoe down? That's the music from a western.

OMG, Corno Dolce,

What a challenging piece this is going to be - catching all the nuances of the orchestral performance into an organ transcription must have been a great undertaking.

Makes for a very long recessional (5:31) though ... but the groom being an organist will surely appreciate the music and not be in a rush to exit the nave.

An original request for sure ... hope someone makes a recording of it for you - it would be neat to hear the organ transcription of this piece.

Dear Master Krummhorn,

Man, piecing in the Brass chords w/ rhythmic accents and keeping them *balanced* with the rest of the organ - this is heavy labor indeed! I'll have to do my best Lyn Larsen imitation or some other theatre-organ great - I'm sweating bullets already:eek::eek::eek::crazy::crazy::crazy:

Thankfully I have a floating Orchestral String division and a floating Orchestral Brass Division which can fully "express" from ppp to fff. I wonder if George Wright ever recorded the theme? Has any professional theatre organ player laid their hands on it??? YIKES!!!!!!! This is going to entail extremely careful study of the score and hours of listening for nuances in the video.

Man, what a hoot :grin::grin::grin: Elmer Bernstein did a masterpiece with this theme.

Cheers,

Blimey CD - that's a tricky piece to play.
I'm playing for a wedding this weekend and thankfully it's just traditional music all the way, apart from signing the register.

Do you have the facillity to record it?, post a copy for us to listen to.

Cheers!

Sorry, sounds ghastly to me. There's no accounting the taste for brides and their pushy mothers.

I've played string quartets at weddins and when asked if we'd play pop music I always answered "get a band, not a string quartet"

Dear CT64,

It was the decision of the couple, not the groom or the bride individually.

Nevertheless you either lower your standards (artistically) and play the crap they want or you keep your standards and don't get work. It's a hard battle and the musician with ethics isn't the winner I'm afraid.

What do standards have to do with it, CT? Its a matter of taste, and it is a great piece. In your mind it may not fit the original wedding scene, but this is a theme wedding - thas fun!!!!:grin::grin:. I personally wouldnt go for a theme wedding, cause its something much more special than a costume party, but I see how that could be really fun ;)

P.S. I always liked the baldy in the black shirt:cool:

Corno, I would slow down the tempo just a bit and go at your own pace
with the song. I know how it is to be in a pickle. Hang in there!

Hi Muza,

The baldy with the black shirt is the Russian Yuly Borisovich Brynner who also had a streak of Mongolian blood in him.

Hi CT64,

I can understand your sentiments. I think the piece has merit but I would never recommend using it for a wedding.

I'd love to hear you play it on the pipe organ. Do you have an equipment to record it?:)

Hi Mat,

As per the confidential non-disclosure agreements I had to sign before I took employment with the businnes I play weddings for, recordings of the instrument other than by the business are strictly prohibited.

Cheers,

I have a suggestion after the ceremony. After they wedding march
out of the church hire some indian dancers to come and give a show.
That would be real perfect. A pow wow!

I think banana peels strewn up the polished marble aisles is a MUST for any nervous bride marching to the scaffold, er altar.
