• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

praeludium in Eb (Jp verpeaux) and your advice about a very unpleasant e-mail

Dear friends

First, I have the pleasure to present you this new praeludium.

http://organ.monespace.net/pages/7.html

Secondly, I need your advice about an e-mail I have received today (there is no link with the prelude in E flat, but with my other pieces for organ).

I would appreciate very much to know what you think about my whole organ work, because I have received today a very unplesant e-mail from an organist of a very famous church in Paris who said that my music is so bad and my mp3 so ugly that I should not put them on the web. Thanks if you can write in your answer in which city you play if you are an organist. And please, tell me if you allow me to put your replies in the "guest-book" I will open soon if possible . Thanks very much.

Cute piece. To be honest I'm not your biggest fan. But I cannot understand why that organist would write that your music is bad and ugly. Forget him, your music is nice and professionally done and he has no right to dictate what should be published on the internet anyway.

stoferb - you make a good point, if a composer is going to put his/her music up here for public consumption, I'm afraid they're going to have to take the good with the bad, simple. If they don't like it, then don't post, it's an easy solution.

Secondly, I need your advice about an e-mail I have received today ...

Dear Jean-Paul,

Do not get discouraged, my friend. I think the author of that email is very narrow minded and has a dislike for organ compositions written by present day composers. I would question that writer asking "and what works have you written, published and recorded recently?"

J-Paul, most of us here are great admirers of your musical talent as an organist and composer ... No matter how hard we try, we can't please all the people all the time.

Wow - the E Flat major Prelude is going to be a workout for the feet .
Going to have to get out my Gleason book and practice my pedaling to get in shape for this one .

Seriously though, You have composed a plethora of pieces and made them available to the greater community here - so far, I haven't seen one bum piece in the lot, so that moronic organist can just go suck an egg!

Musicalis, I would call your compositions "occasional" -- meaning that each one is suitable for a particular occasion. Obviously, this organist has no occasion to use your music. But he has no right to destroy a web site that many of us do find occasion to use. Fortunately, he can't, as long as you just ignore him.

Nothing wrong with a bit of "pastiche" work and yours is a perfectly harmless and accessible piece.

I would almost be inclined to check into the email address, ISP, etc, etc and find out if it's some sort of stupid hoax. Perhaps I'm a bit naive, but I find it difficult to think that a well known organist from a well known church would be so openly and unpleasantly critical of someone who is trying to keep the instrument alive. Just my $0.02.

Now I believe it is an hoax

The guy wrote me with a name that was not is true name, he had only changed some letters, but he is so stupid that he has used an e-mail address that contains his real name. With some informations he gave me about his house in his latest e-mail I have found where he live and what is is job. He was only a piano teacher a few years ago and seems to have had difficulties to find pupils.

I have written to him the following answer :

"GAME OVER . I have got the informations about you that I was expecting fom the church headquarters "(I dont know how to said that in English).
"The game was very fun and I have got pleasure to play with you".
I have added also that I knew Olivier, the son of P. Cochereau, that is true, he wrote a very good report about me when I was teaching electronic music.
And I finish tolding him "you are an organist of Saint-Sulpice, what a nice promotion for a poor piano teacher."

In a previous mail I have gave him my phone number, i do not know if he will call me and/or if he will reply to this final email. With my pzrkinson disease I am very emotive and I am a little afraid of what he may do now.

hoax ?

that is my exact reply, in French, if you understand it.
If you do not understand, I explain it in my previous post.

GAME OVER

cordialement.

PS : i have written to the church to get the list of their organist and I am waiting for their answer.

The best thing to do is not to dwell on it until it drives you nuts. I will
be thinking about more of your great music.

I suspect now he knows the game is over, he will keep quiet. he does not want people knowing that he is pretending to be someone he is not.

Just keep on with your lovely music Jean Paul, and don't worry about him.

Scarcely surprising with that type of moronic behaviour. Good call on all fronts there musicalis, I'm glad you got to the bottom of it. I'm personally rather angry that this individual has chosen to sully the organists at S. Sulpice of all places.

Hello

I have received a phone call from the wife of th real organist of St Sulpice. Her husband Daniel was not present. I have explained to her all the story and she has been very interested.

In the meantime, I have received an other e-mail, from a lady, asking me the same question "can you explain me your compositions". Very strange.

Her e-mail is .... @yahoo.com.au

I think it is the same guy that write to me. At the bottom of the e-mail there is this strange advertisement :

Get the name you always wanted with the new y7mail email address.

What do you think of that ?

Hi J-Paul,

Glad you got a bead on this hoax email thing. That yahoo "au" extension is the domain for Australia, but anybody can get a free yahoo email address from most anywhere.

As for the advertisement at the bottom of the email, it is common for emails that are generated from a service such as that to routinely post a "promotional" ad attempting to get more users. My sister uses a company called Clearwire, and they have similar ads in the footer.

Happy to hear that the organists wife called you ... now, at least the church is aware of an impostor trying to use their name as a vice against you ... Why can't people just be themselves, ya know?

All that matters though is that you know this moron is full of crap ... next time people confront you about your music, just refer them to this site and the threads you have posted so that they can see for themselves who the "real musician" really is ...

Musicalis,
Thank you for the Eb Prelude. I have just played the MP3 file, and downloaded the manuscript. But I fear my pedal technique will never allow me to manage the opening few bars!
I enjoyed the piece very much, and thought it was very typical of the other pieces you have given us. They have one clear thing in common - they are "JOYEUX" - full of joy.

It would be good to hear some recordings of your pieces played by an actual organist instead of a MIDI-sequencer - I'm sure they would then be twice as good!

Musicalis,
I agree with all that has been said here. Unfortunate, he, who takes (wastes) the time to slander your wonderful talent. He is probably the same type who attempts to scam people on the internet. While he may be a "sham" you may take solice in the fact that you are, indeed, a wonderfully talented musician.

Jean-Paul,
It is sad indeed to follow such a distressing saga on forums such as these. Unfortunatly mischeif makers are not uncommon on the internet. I have been a victim myself in a different context.:(

My advice. Try to ignor this sort of post. I now never open e-mails that go to the "junk folders", just delete them.

Kindest regards from an admirer of your work. Raymond:)

thanks to all of you.
This man has tried to wound me by different ways, may be here also in this forum. But now it seems to have ended. But today I do not mind. I know who is this man, I have is name, adress and phone. I have collected and kept a lot of proofs and fill a great folder with them. The brother of one of my daugther's boy friend is a policeman and he woks in the departement of informatic and cyber criminality. He is only waiting for I phone if there is a new attack. We have very good laws in France and Internet providers have helped me.
