Rojo - your first choice, if sung really well, brings me to tears. None of the others pushes my buttons I'm afraid (on your list that is).

Marina's heart wrenching aria from Act 3 of Dimitrij (Antonin Dvorak's greatest and most neglected opera in my humble opinion) always reduces me to a blubbering mess.

    Where, where?

Well, the Verve tune (1997) and the Lauper one (recorded 1992; original written 1978 though) are not that old. And I don't date back to the Sinatra/Garland era, but those are still beautiful songs. Good music is always timeless.

In any case, here are three more that are also more recent.

    Apologize - One Republic
Nothing To Lose - Billy Talent
    Teardrop - Massive Attack

Fooled Around And Fell In Love - Elvin Bishop
Seasons In The Sun - Terry Jacks
If You Don't Know Me By Now - Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes
Moon River - Frank Sinatra; Andy Williams
Across The Universe - The Beatles
    Always And Forever - Heatwave
She's Out Of My Life - Michael Jackson (w. Tom Bahler)
My Cherie Amour - Stevie Wonder
''Music, I feel, should be emotional first and intellectual second.'' - Maurice Ravel
''The greatest education in the world is watching the masters at work.'' - Michael Jackson
