Interesting looking instrument ... wondering why the need for a quarter-tone instrument ... are works written for such beasts, and are there other quarter-tone instruments besides the Clarinet?

One can adjust the tuning of most any wind blown instrument a quarter-tone at least ... right?

Thanks, CD, for that link of interesting keyboards.

Guess quarter tuning does have its place in history and practical use ... but for someone like myself with perfect pitch, I can just imagine how disruptive this would be to hear those quarter tones played along with natural, as we commonly know, pitches. It would be similar to fingernails scratching an old slate chalk board ... Eeeewewwewee

The pipe organ can be incredibly beautiful and huge like the largest
one in the United States. They come in all sizes and are as classy
as a violin. But pipe organs are still what I call a normal instrument.
You see them in churches, concert halls, and even some shopping
malls like the one at Macy's. Believe me that is as close to a wood
wind that I can play beside a flute. Forget the sax, the clarinet,
and the oboe. My teeth are in too bad of shape for them. What
has me really interested are the very unusual instruments of
Europe and other parts of the world. The USA is stuck in a rut when
it comes to instruments. There are more than what you see in an
orchestra.

Judy, honey, it's a lute. Pure and simple. Nothing strange about it really. However, the gentleman playing said beast is a true magician, thanks for the link, it's a delight.

Thank you Judy, a great new link. I enjoyed listening and will return to site soon. When I was in Australia last year, I heard a lovely vietnamese lady in the market on the Gold coast. Always regretted I didn't buy a C.D. The sounds were so beautiful and with the sound of the ocean in the background, just heavenly.Sylvie
