I've been blissfully reaquainting myself with Paul Hindemith's music, in particular his three organ sonatas (which I quite like) and his fantastic "Chamber Music" for Organ and Chamber orchestra, wonderful music, anyone played this work?

Hi Contratrombone 64,
Being new to these Forums, I've only just read your message here.
I do not know this piece for organ and chamber orchestra, but I like the three organ sonatas all of which I have on record. I have a score of No. 2 and have done some work on it although I have never performed it.
I wonder if you are familiar with Hindemith's Concerto for Organ and Orchestra, his last orchestral work commissioned by the New York Philharmonic Society and premiered in 1962?
This is a difficult but powerful work and is well worth listening to and studying.

I don't know his organ concerto, I must try and find the CD, thanks.
It's a dutch group, Amsterdam chamber orchestra, from memory.
I've performed 2 of the 3 sonatas and I did actually learn the Concerto but by the time I'd practically had it to the playable stage, the (student) conductor informed me that he'd been unable to get the orchestra together as previously promised
Most Hindemith for me goes in the "challenging but rewarding" category.
Music is made to transform the states of the soul, for an hour or an instant (J. Alain)
Contratrombone 64,
The recording I have is on the 'apex' label.
The Concerto is played by Anthon Heiller and the ORF-Symphonieorchester conducted by Milan Horvat. The disc also contains all three sonatas played by Elisabeth Ullmann at the Flentrop Organ of the Brucknerhaus, Linz.
