It looks as if the cat already is.

    That is a lovely picture.

If I had an ARP Oddy synth, I would not be letting a cat anywhere near it! (Strangely enough though, that vintage is well known for being able to accurately reproduce cat sounds )

    Aloha Soubasse,

Please share why you wouldn't let a cat near it - Electrocution hazard or Short-circuit hazard?

    Cheers,

    Short FUR hazard actually!

Many years back, I offered to (attempt to) fix a couple of synths belonging to a friend of a friend. One of the synths was an ARP Odyssey (similar to the one in that pic) and he couldn't get it to trigger properly, along with lost reponse on several of the panel controls. Upon opening it up, I found the keybed and other parts bristling with fur. I phoned him and asked "Do you have any pets like a cat or a dog or a gorilla or something?"
"Err, yes I have a cat"
"I see. And where does it usually sleep?"

There had also clearly been some sort of liquid spilt inside (but I was afraid to ask about that). It took a fair bit of doing but it eventually worked. I offered to send it to a good home (ie, mine!) but he wouldn't part with it at the time. The curious thing was that many of those vintage synths are generally quite resilient to all kinds of .. err, "substance" abuse, but not this particular one it seemed.

    Cheers

    Well done for fixing it.

I suppose if he does sell it, he will have to put it in a CATalogue.

Oddly enough, a company called Octave Plateau ripped off the design of the ARP Odyssey and called it The Cat. (They also ripped off the design of the ARP Axxe and called it The Kitten.)

Yes, animal fur can be a problem. I have a dog lying on my feet sometimes while I'm recording. I expect to open up the Moog synth one day and find a lot of short black hairs in there - and a few grey ones.
