DIY advice for a total beginner

I'm considering getting my apartment's ceiling covered with gyprock (including cornices). I'm a totaly beginner when it comes to DIY can anyone suggest a book I could read to get my head around how it's done?

Ever tried to look it up on the net? Sometimes there is a tv show on
how to do those things. Sometimes there are instructions and a kit
that will help you. I hope that helps.

Judy, thanks, I'll pass on the net, 99% is utter crap and I don't have the patience for sifting the chaff for the sake of a grain or two of truth. Hence, asking here if anyone's had personal experience and can proffer advice.

I was thinking looking up at my ceiling. I've seen people take plaster and
apply it to the ceiling and take a round thing that looked like a flat mop
and keep dabbing until you have the desired look and let it dry. I hope
that helped some.

Sorry CT, I can't help. Just remember DIY also stands for don't injure yourself. My DIY skills are making a cup of tea/coffee, and a meal.
