• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

    Many kind regards

Famous Organists...

We have a new organ player at my church. The other two musicians
left a few weeks ago(good riddance). This one plays circles around
both of them. He also plays a lot like Magle. When he got through
playing a piece I cheered. I also said to myself,"I give up I need some
lessons.". His name is Alex Grimm and he's a young school band leader
at a school somewhere. He didn't play light like Paul used to. He played
the monster right. He had it sounding like a thunderstorm of music.
I wonder if he can play Toccata & Fugue like Magle.

Judy,
Where else has Alex Grimm played or done to become famous? I did a search on his name and came up empty ...

Judy,
Well, lets hope Alex Grimm becomes famous some day

Back to the thread topic of FAMOUS organists:

Edwin Lemare ... make that "was" the highest paid ... he died in 1934
According to what I could find in a quick internet research, Lemare was paid an incredible sum of $110,000 per year while he was San Francisco's City Organist. That sum of money in that era of time was quite significant.

Another name for a famous organist: Felix Hell.
A young and inspiring organist of such wonderful talent - delights people all over the world

Defining fame is spurious at best and totally subjective, ipso facto: Robert Ampt, titular organist at Sydney Town Hall.

Aloha CT64,

Alot of organists and other people will never have the chance to occupy the cockpit of a grand instrument - those that do are generally extremely adept at playing, improvising, and concertising. Therefore I find it fair to speak about famous organists.

Back on topic: Daniel Roth - Titulaire at St. Sulpice.

Aloha CT64,

Master Krummhorn is not yelling - he's trying to help Ms. Judy.

Krummiest,
Please warn me when you're going to yell in here, I'll ensure my hearing aide is turned to silent ...

CT64,
Apologies for the amplified words ... it was the end of one of "those" days where everything went awry.

Thanks, CD, for the defense :tiphat:
Always trying to do my part helping people along ... the biggest obstacle is keeping all the threads on topic as much as possible.

Back on topic (myself):

Diane Bish ... has toured the world and played most of the organs.

Aloha Master Krummhorn,

My condolences to you dear sir that you had *one of those days* - They can be a real bear sometimes; happening at a moment when least expected. I'm glad that I could run interference for you - Methinks that CT64 was *joshing* and trying a bit of sarcastic humour, ergo, meaning no real harm.

Back on topic: Michael Murray - A top-end Dupre and Bach interpreter.

Cheers,

CD :):):)

Sweet Corn - it's cool, you don't need to intervene between the wise, great and wonderful Krummiest and myself. We understand each other perfectly well ... besides, my hearing aide is now misplaced so I'm blissfully unaware of everything!

About Lemare being in San Francisco before 1934: My dad used to say that, back at that time in S. F., you didn't take your trash can out to the curb without wearing a coat and tie. HAH!! Have you been around S. F. lately??? It has more creeps than an asylum and what it sends to Congress may be open to question, too. Pelosi?? Give me a break.

A thread of this type - Who is your favorite (....) is going to elicit a different answer from every entrant.
