Millennium Ouverture for band

Hi guys,

have a listen at http://corno.dk/thomas/musik/millenium_ouverture.mp3 - it's excerpts from an overture for wind band which I wrote during the summer of 2000 - written for a concert tour with the concert band KKSO - and dedicated a Latvian Band called "Fanfara"... - this excerpt is from a joint concert held in February 2001 - with both of the bands.
Please take in to account that the bands are all young people.

It's an excertp - lasting 3.45 minutes (the whole piece lasts about 9 minutes) - a little over 5 mb

Any comments?

I've also made a version for symphony orchestra... so if anyone has any contacts

That worked!

I have now heard the excerpt and I like your style! I like the inspiration from great film-composers such as John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith etc. (probably don't come as much of a surprise
wink.gif
). The introduction is really great! You have an excellent skill at writing for brass. Unfortunately the woodwind plays very bad generally and exceptionally bad at the passages beginning 0:50. and in the quiet middle passage (1:30-) it almost destroys the impression of the music (that is of course not your fault!). The brass players are better, but it would be nice to hear it performed by a really good orchestra!

It's impossible to say something about the piece as a whole since this is a compilation of excerpts. But the excerpts seems very well crafted, with some effective and catchy themes. Would love to hear it in full and with symphony orchestra one day!

Good.

Well there might be a little influence of some sort in there
wink.gif
hehe... - this is a recording of a fairly big "joint-band" so the intonation is accordingly...
smile.gif
- but the main ideas "come across"

I'm glad you like it.

just to let you all know... I'm sending out information of my symphonic version to different symphonyorchestras here locally in Denmark.. and so far I've received one "acknowledgement" from one conductor who will propose it to an orchestra... - so small steps...

i know we have discussed this private. small steps are always best first. another tip for Larger works is: only print/pdf out when needed etc while composer is still alive. and then "hire out" the scores for your royalties due
cool.gif
Priest/michel will know this when it comes to film scores/musicals/plays etc. they do a one off printing. then all after that, who wants to use a work,go through "hire out". this can be done by composer/playright "personally" at first.. but works have to be heard and tried and again, small steps can then lead to "giant leaps" hope so.!!! all the best. pamadu/Paul.

I'm not inclined to share my music with everyone - I like to know the people who hear my music... but however I will make it available in the "crews quarters" later and just for at brief periode...

in continuation of my earlier information, since I've heard no objections to this information I will keep on writing.
smile.gif

the rehearsal last Saturday went well, though the orchestra was severly undermanned, and from what I've heard they are planning to take it on their concert-programme for their autumn concert. so that's good news, so far.
