Large Hadron Collider/Science Illiteracy...

Well, did the Earth vanish into a Black Hole like the critics of the project had promised us? No! Is there a climatological disaster engulfing us? No! Something tells me that an Opaque Black Blanket is being draped over our heads by the media, enviro-nazis, and *operatives* within the political parties.

How come there is never any talk about global warming when the Northern Hemisphere is gripped by sub-zero Arctic blasts and voluminous snowfalls? Keep the people dumb by sending them through public schools which don't teach people how to think but only what to think.

It's true what you say about the media ... we are being led around like puppy dogs and our nose sniffing is highly restricted to what the media wants us to see and hear about.

I suppose there is less profit for the media talking about the global warming effects we are facing. But is it truly global warming? Somewhere I had read that this is a normal activity which occurs every 150 years or so as the general climate changes around the globe. Since none of us were around 150 years ago, it's hard to know if this was true or not - I suspect we may never know the truth.

Because of all the slanted reporting that the media spoonfeeds to us, I refuse to watch any televised newscast, as on the local scene it is mostly bad news ... we get the point, media ... ok, we get the point ... let's move on, media, to something else now!!

The schools are also failing miserably with general subjects like spelling and grammar. I see these errors every day on a wiki site that I work as an Editor/Supervisor on ... "dose" for "does" ... then the abbreviated texted words from mobile phones ... yeesh .

Master Krummhorn,

I get so tired of the alarmism and rhetoric of panic - GAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!

Ya know, after I evicted the TV from my house, my life has been so much better because I only hear 1/4 of all the BS. I really feel sorry for those who let their TV blast almost all hours of day and night.

True ... in a former life, we had to listen and watch the newscasts from 4:00 PM to 7:eek:o PM every single day ... of course, it was the same news (99% doom and gloom stuff) over and over and over and over again ... EGADs ... Nobody, but nobody was allowed to change the channel. Thank goodness that household didn't have cable TV with even more channels of the same doom and gloom messages.

I mean, how many times do we have to be dragged through the same BS? Each channel has a different slant on the news, but it's the same subject.

In my present life, we get the newspaper 4 days a week ... Except for the Editorials, I have no use for it and I rarely look at the paper otherwise. If I have the urge for "news", I'll check out an online source ... saves paper, and I can be in complete control of what I read ....

Aloha Master Krummhorn,

I must dejectedly surmise that *Doom and Gloom* sells newspapers, weekly tabloids, and buys ad-time so that newsmedia can bring home the bacon. Anyway, it is often tedious work to sort and sift through all the ad-lib commentary that creeps its way into reports and studies - GROAN!!!!!!!!

Cheers,

Funny - whilst I do own a T.V. it's only used to watch DVDs. I don't even watch the news any more - all f%#king-tedious-doom-and-gloom-tripe (pardon my expletive).

Of course there was no black hole. Because THERE WAS NO COLLISION yet. All they did was shoot each of the directional beams seperatly around the ring. They are going through the cool down process to run more tests again after fixing a few things. Also they are analyzing the first dumps of data from processing grid. So there will be much more testing before they do an actual collision with it. Meanwhile they have a smaller collider which has been run many times to play with.

Corno, I agree with you and Krummhorn on what you said. I heard a TV
preacher said that god was going to call us and we were going to meet
him in the air. So far I'm still here talking to you and those of us who
do have faith in God are still here pounding on the keys of our computers
right now. What a false prophet! I wish these guys like Perry Stone
and What's his face would get things straight before predicting what is
to happen. I'm tired of it!:mad: They need to get a life!

Couldn't agree more, guys. What people don't know is that the types of collisions the LHC will be creating when fully active are collisions that occur every day in our upper atmosphere. If the collisions in the LHC were dangerous, the Earth would have been destroyed eons ago. All the LHC will do is create those events in the laboratory where we can observe them closely.

Mainstream media is the last place anyone should look for information. They have only their own interests at heart so are obviously not to be trusted...just like anyone with only their own interests at heart...

Aloha JLS,

Tbh, I really feel sorry for those people who so uncritically receive their info from mass-media or uncritically listen to and don't follow up by doing a little research into spurious claims made by think tanks, political action committees, and political interest groups and their handlers who can never cite peer-reviewed academic journals.

Science is a most wonderful and beautiful tool when used properly but when it is *pimped* or dressed up like a skanky Where looking for her next carnal encounter all for the cause of political brownie points, then that *pseudo-science* isn't worth the paper it is written on - BAH HUMBUG!!!:mad::mad::scold::scold::scold:

Still no black hole...
It should be taken for granted that most of what is in the media is either only a half-truth or downright lies, and extra research should only be done on affairs that really interest you. Otherwise it seems like a waste of time.
