I heard late yesterday and was genuinely quite shocked and saddened as I had no idea (I gather not many others did either) he was ill.
Rick Wright was such a marvellously underrated player and was the man behind my favourite Floyd moments and (IMO) the best Floyd songs. I always loved his use of jazz harmonies where they technically shouldn't have been, but he'd make it work. Whenever I think of the best combinations of piano, wurly ep and B3, I've always thought of Richard Wright.
The man who gave us The Great Gig In The Sky is now there ...![]()
Music is made to transform the states of the soul, for an hour or an instant (J. Alain)
Pink Floyd is in my top 3 bands, and Rick was an essential part of their best works. RIP.
i'm not a floyd specialist but i find R. Wright was one of the most discreet and elegant "rock" band keyboard players of the seventies, in comparison with other famous contemporaries like John Lord, or Ray Manzarek ( in very different styles, indeed ). nevertheless, the most enduring sound of his that i recall is, instantly, the B3 "waves" of "one of these days".
records remain!
Indeed, Ms. Margaret- Sad, sad news on Richard Wright (piano, Hammond B3 organ, keyboards, synthesizers) passing away due to cancer.
I canīt even fathorn, what this will mean for the rest of the PINK FLOYD, leaving Nick Mason and David Gilmour the only two original members of that AWESOME english rock band, which began itīs career in the mid. 1960īs, playing their music to light shows in the Swinging London. One of my most favourite songs "Us and Them" composed by Roger Waters and Richard Wright from that classic PINK FLOYD album "The Dark Side Of The Moon", 1973.
The only rock band world wide, during my life as a teenager, I can honestly say I became addicted to hence the double album "Umma Gumma".

R.I.P............................
Only just found this thread. Typical of me. But I had to add my coments. I also believe that they were truly a supergroup and am lucky to have some of their early work on vinyl. Piper at the Gtes of Dawn and Aton, Heart Mother are still as fresh to me as when I first heard them. The effect of his life style on Syd Barrett was tragic, and I suppose his death inevitable but that makes it none the less sad. Then we lose Richard as well. Thank goodness that they played that last gig, managing to put their differences aside for a last performance.

According to Wikipedia, Richard Wright, English keyboardist, died on September 15, 2008. Why is this showing up now???
16th September 2008 was when I started this thread. Someone has only just seen it and decided to add their thoughts.

Some people are just slow at the trigger, I guess!! Are they aware that quite a number of past Presidents have died?
