Well, these things happen in live TV ... She apparently mis-undestood the question, but did finish as 3rd runner up.
She was given a second chance at the answer, as seen on this Today Show clip:

Amazing how we (the public) always put more weight on people's faults as opposed to their accomplishments.

The poor lass...obviously a "blonde moment" to borrow a catch phrase. Undoubtedly the pressure got to her as can so easily happen on live television. Having done some acting I can vouch for the fact that the camera can be very intimidating at times.
But, as Master Krummhorne stated, she still did place third...very respectable. I think she should be proud. And the answer she gave on the Today Show was a great one.
