Hello all,
I had never heard of Walther Boer (1891-1984) before, but this
Dutch conductor / cellist, pupil of Daniël de Lange, Julius Röntgen and Bernard Zweers, made a,
to my opinion, splendid recording Of Dvorak's Stabat mater.
The Avro is so kind to temporarily host a recording from 1959 on-line
(in 256 KBS!)
Dvorak - Stabat Mater by Broadcasting Orchestra and Choir
Walther Boer and Coenraad Lodewyk; Heleen Verkley, soprano; Wilhelmina
Matthes, alto; Strauss Lloyd Smith, tenor; Hans Wilbrink, bass. recorded
13 Jan, 1959

"Effective effects". Of course, it's "old-fashioned" (choir!), But it
convinces me. And even the unknown singers from the'50s are on a high level.

The record is part of a page I mentioned earlier:

Variable in sound quality and performance, but I thought the Dvorak Stabat Mater is an unknown gem.

I am very curious what you think of this performance!

Greetings,
Rolf
