• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

Somehow, the console looks totally out of proportion to the rest. Either it's a mostly electronic job, or it's someone's imagination gone wild. Where is it?

If I lived in a nice home where I had the room I wouldn't mind having one
like that in a smaller size. That way I wouldn't have to drive the church
musicians nuts wanting to learn and practice the thing.

Aloha CT64,

It is owned by Joerg Glebe in Bochum, Germany and yes, its an electronic job with sound samples from Hauptwerk - including Theatre ranks, Cavaille-Coll, Schnitger and a few others - I loathe mixing Cavaille-Coll with Schnitger - makes me sick to my stomach.

Schnitger and Cavaille-Coll missed each other by a couple of centuries. On the other hand, maybe that's why organs have come to be so large - they want to include everything in one place.

The 20th century seems to have been a fertile time for discussions and disagreements about what organs should sound like. Especially in Europe, there are lots of tales about how organs have been re-built, then "restored" because somebody took issue with what the re-builders did. Thankfully, at least a few have been pretty much left in original condition.

Anyone who has read the Mormon Tabernacle story is aware that several different organs have been put in there, and each one was added to and otherwise changed before they decided to start over again. Are we ever satisfied? Then again, not everybody has the LDS church's money!!

'Tis better to have a big Cavaille-Coll or Schnitger than to mix the two to get a bigger organ. Haha, LDS - very devout people who give 10% of their income - and that 10% is calculated before taxes are taken.

My guess is that he doesn't mix at all: he probably plays either the theatre samples, or the CC samples, or the Schnitger samples.

So it's just three completely separate organs sharing the same console and the same loudspeakers.

Aloha acc,

Absolutely! The drawknobs have no nomenclature engraving - Above the drawknobs there is a plastic *rack* where the owner can place a *pre-printed* chit that will identify which sound the knob will access. Since the organ runs on Hauptwerk, the owner will *load* the complete organ sounds via a CD/DVD.

Cheerio,

Aloha Smilingvox,

Oh yeah - when I saw it I almost peed in my pants with excitement. Ya know, the best thing about Hauptwerk is that it is so easy to build a dream organ for only a tiny fraction of the cost as opposed to getting a custom electronic from Rodgers, Allen or others. Here's a site that is very interesting:

Cheers,
