Suggestions for someone who liked Prokofiev 5?

Do yall have any suggestions for me? I'm looking for something with a similar feel to prokofiev symphony no 5, especially the last movement? I really like the feel of it. Something neo-classical maybe, or another prokofiev work...

Yes – more Prokofiev. You might also check out the symphonies of Shostakovich (starting with #10, say, if you're not familiar with his work).

Have you heard much Mahler, Sibelius, neo-classical-era Stravinsky, Copland, Hanson ... ? Britten's Sinfonia da Requiem is a particular favourite of mine. It's endless!!

I was also going to suggest Shostakovich, though I'd say go for Symphonies No. 8 or No. 11 to begin with.

As for Mahler, Symphonies No. 6 or No. 10 (the Deryck Cooke realisation, rather than the Joe Wheeler reconstruction) ought to hit the spot.

Ok those should be interesting,

I know Shostakovich 6,7, and 10 well, but I have never listened to 8 or 11 so I will check those out,

Mahler I know 2 and 5 well, but not 6 or 10, so I'll try to look at those too.

I think Stravinsky definitely hits the spot as well for that type of music--do you have any suggestions other than the the ballets? I've heard rite of spring, firebird, and petrouchka,

Sibelius, Copland, and Hanson I've heard them but not sure which selections you would recommend-- and the Britten, I've never heard that so I'll look into it--sometimes I find that I don't enjoy Britten's tonality and harmonies as much, but he always has some great stuff.

Stravinsky isn't really my area, but you might enjoy - or at least, admire - either his Symphony in C or Symphony in Three Movements. Both are a little turbulent, however.

I remember being hit for a six by Sibelius's 4th Symphony at a cushion concert years ago. I'd probably heard bits of his Violin Concerto and was expecting something of the same ilk. Wrong!

Anyhow, the 3rd, 4th and 5th remain my favourites. The 4th is quite dark; you might want to start with one of the other two. His 7th Symphony is also good but it might take a few listenings to get into it.
