    Exclamation It Worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Dear Graham,
I tried My organ yesterday............... BINGO!!!!!!! it worked in my PC.... no latency...... at all........ only thing was sound was not that satisfactory... may be because my PC had the worlds worst sound system attached to it.........
there was no latency at all...... and as soon as the sound font was loaded I could play the great organ.......... but there were a few problems.......

    1. As I have only one external key board..... I used the couplers and could make the swell also play along with great....... but the pedal was not playing when the coupler was activated............

    2. when i tried to switch on the finger pistons...... all the stops are getting switched off............ .

    3. can i attach more keyboards (daisy chain) to the existing USB MIDI interface?????

thank you very much for your support.........

    Alex.

    Hi Alex,
    Great that it's working!

Could you describe what you mean by 'only thing was sound was not that satisfactory'? Did the sound break up, sound like it was distorted, was there too much reverb, not enough reverb, etc...

Please also just remind me what program your using - I originally suggested jOrgan and MyOrgan and I can't remember which one we're dealing with here now.

    1. It sounds like you were playing the Great and coupling using the Swell to Great works (as it should). Does the organ have a Pedal to Great coupler? This would be unusual. When I know which organ we're dealing with I should be able to help you get it working using a different method.

    2. The finger pistons are probably set to 'blank'. You will need to set them yourself using the SET piston

    3. Tell me more about your USB Midi interface. Does it have more than one MIDI IN socket?

    Glad to help!

    dear Graham,

Right now Iam using 'my organ with Jeux D'orgues sound fond. the stops were sounding a bit distorted... like the trumpet 8' was sounding harsh............i don't know wether the coupler was pedal to great or great to pedal........ my USB MIDI interface is MIDI spot..... with one MIDI in and one MIDI out port........

    thanks.
    Alex.

    Hi Alex,

Right, in the MyOrgan top menu click on Audio -> Settings. Click on the MIDI Messages Tab. In the list, double click on the channel property for Manual 1 (Pedal). Decrease the Channel property to 1 (i.e. make the Pedals respond to MIDI channel 1). Do the same for Manual 3 (Swell). Now you won't have to use the couplers as the one keyboard plays all three.

For the possible distortion, turn the Volume percentage down in MyOrgan (found along the top menu) and see if this makes a difference.

The MIDI spot can only control 1 MIDI device. If your Keyboard has a MIDI-THRU port it might be possible to run another MIDI keyboard through the MIDI-THRU.

    Have fun!

    Hi Alex,

Try the HW1 sample sets from
    http://www.prospectum.com/en/organs/freestuff.htm
    http://www.appletonit.com.au/nickspa...tstephens.html (you'll need torrent)

I'll think of some more when I have a bit more time :-)

    Hi Alex,

Also worth trying is Mark Beverley's Prudhoe Methodist Church Organ at http://www.rkbev.com/prudhoemethodist.html and the Orgue de Salon / House Organ from http://duphly.free.fr/en/index.html (there are also some other instruments here... a Carillon and some Harpsichords).

It is possible to combine the ranks from various organs and create your own disposition. I would suggest that you get more comfortable with using MyOrgan before we go down that road though :-)

In regard to reverb... we use the reverb that comes with our soundcard. We have a bunch of different reverbs possible and most often use either 'Stone Room' or 'Ampitheatre'. Does you sound card do reverb settings?

There is another virtual organ program that was produced by the author of MyOrgan called Toccatta that allows the use of VST effects. I have only briefly used it as it doesn't have a virtual organ graphical interface, just a tick-box interface. You can get Toccatta from http://www.virtual-organs.com/

    Have fun!

    dear Graham,

Thanks for that information...... I can try changing the reverb in my sound card........ as you said I will first get used to the software........ ........ Now, If i want to set the finger pistons.... on to my computer key board ( as i want to operate the pistons using the key board rather than the mouse ) what should I do??????

    thank you,

    Alex.

    Keyboard Codes for Pistons

    Hi Alex,
You will need to edit the .organ file (organ definition file - ODF). This can be done using Notepad or another text editor.

In the ODF you will find the separate stop [Stop00x] definitions for each of ranks on the manuals. In the stop definition is the "ShortcutKey=***" property. Change whatever number is there (sometimes it is just left empty) to the keyboard shortcut number that you want to use to activate the rank using your computer keyboard.

I have attached a ZIP file that contains a web utility (that I downloaded some time ago) for getting the keyboard number codes. Load the htm in your browser and then press the keys on your computer keyboard that you want to use. A message window will popup giving you the keyscan number to use in the ODF.

Once you have modified the ODF, save it and load it up in MyOrgan to test that the keys work.

    Graham,
Just a slight correction. Toccata was not written by the author of MyOrgan, and for the moment its author seems to have abandoned any further development. MyOrgan seems to be without further development also. Nonetheless it gives great results.
Thank you for giving us the link to that Dutch site.

Opps, you're right! My applogies, Toccata was written by John Samuel. I had forgotten that. I wish he'd open the sourcecode to it like Kirk Meyer did with MyOrgan... Thanks for correcting me :-)
