Was Ronnie Milsap an ATG?

I threw a little party at my house last week and some of my friends (and new acquaints) and I got to talkin' about country music. Someone struck up the debate subject, "Who where the All-Time Greats"? Just then one of my girlfriends sarcastically yells out, "Ronnie Milsap"! (Everyone's laughing) I injected with, "Actually, that boy put up the numbers". Momma was a big fan so needless to say, I heard a lot of him. Tell me whatcha think after lookin' at these stats:

*54 Top 20 Singles
*26 Studio/7 Compilation/1 Live album(s)
*02 Double Platinum Albums and 7 Gold Albums
*35 Years active in the industry

Those are some nice numbers, I think. Any thoughts?

I always liked Ronnie Milsap, hearing him on the radio and seeing him a lot on television. He is too well-rounded a pianist and singer to be pegged as ordinary country. His songs are like, say, Charlie Rich, "Most Beautiful Girl in the World" and "Behind Closed Doors", personal and complicated. Mr. Milsap seemed to manage a sane career, playing adult venues of nice acoustic size without adding arena production. But most of all, try playing and singing one of his songs. There are two tunes about psychological home intrusions that stick with me, Crystal Gayle's "Talking in Your Sleep" and Ronnie's "There's a Stranger in My House".
These aren't stats, just other reasons to like this artist.

This is very true.

As far as the stats go, I just thought I'd put them up cause that's what most wanna see in terms of deciding the level of one's greatness, or so it seems.

All in all, the guy was pretty consistant.

Milsap came along at a time when Nashville and country music were ready to change. He made some good records.
