Chimes for my grand father clock.

    Hi friends,

Im an amateur horologist. I happened to inherit an old grandfather clock movement(machine) but there are no chimes attached to it so it wont ring. I want to add chime by building it myself .

I plan to add tubular bells made from steel pipes. the clock strikes the melody "Westminster chime" can any one give me successions how to build and tune tubular bells from steel pipes.

If you have got any better suggestion you can post and guide me.

    thanks,
    Alex

Interesting question to which I don't know the answer! My only thought is that some garden wind chimes use metallic tubular bells, so that might be a good starting point. Increasing the length obviously lowers the pitch (like organ pipes) but I'm not sure what effect, if any, diameter and wall thickness have. Alternatively, why don't you wire the clock up to Myorgan and get it to play a fugue on the hour? (Only joking )

    ha ha......

thats a good option....... but i prefer mechanical sound production (pure tone) which cant be imitated by a electronic device........ its like playing a pipe organ and a digital organ.............
