    RIP Eartha Kitt

I remember hearing her on the radio many years ago, Sadly she died yesterday from cancer. She did have a distinctive voice, whether you liked it or not.

May she rest in peace and thank you for entertaining us.

The world is definitely a much sadder place without that extraordinarily talented, funny lady.

Margaret, you chose the song that sprang immediately into my mind. Here's another with a Christmas flavour - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=sFfxIA952Bw . A similar theme, though!!

I had started a similar thread the day she died and was going to attach some of my favourites from her, but then my external drive decided to die (I think the case is bad cuz I can't use it on any other computer, either) and unfortunately, that is where all of our music and pictures (and lots of software are).

Ever since I was just a lad I was always drawn to Miss Kitt. I loved here tonal qualities, humour and the way that she seemed to be an ambassador of music for the world. She was also a pet lover, having her pooches pampered while she was in rehearsals.

About 4 years ago, Joe and I were lucky enough to experience her live at a dinner theater in Miami on Valentine's Day. At 78 years old, she still had the aura of a lady and the charisma of a seasoned pro and was still provocative and toyed with the young men in the audience.

May she rest in eternal peace and may her music live on into infinity and show the world just what a versatile performer she really was. In my book, she was one in a million.

Perhaps my favourite song by her follows:

Once I have access to it, I will come back and post the song with the included monologue, it is the version that I really love.

Margaret, it truly was one of the high points in my life. As she is someone that I always looked up to and actually got to experience her live, and in such an intimate setting with her being only about 8 feet away, was awesome. They made a special menu with everything attributed to her and her career. Fondant covered thingys with catwoman cut outs made in chocolate, etc.

I recorded the whole thing on my mp3 player.

Another fav or mine is Dame Shirley Bassey. I was hoping to get a chance to hear her for a New Year's Eve show when we were in London a few years ago. I didn't know that she rarely does performances anymore and unless it is for a charity that she doesn't perform out of the country.

The last I saw her perform was about 4 years ago and she was in Antwerp.

On my list of things to do before the "dirt nap" would be to hear her sing live as well as Cleo Laine.

Hi Stephen, Shirley Bassey has an amazing voice.

Some years ago when we lived in London, we went to see Cleo Laine along with Johnny Dankworth at the London Paladium. She was absolutely wonderful, truly well worth the ticket. They live in a village just a few miles form here, and run a venue called the Stables.
