Re: \'The Village\' Soundtrack - Opinions?
I just saw this movie for the first time on the weekend. The whole soundscape was just amazing. The music was used perfectly in conjunction with the imagery to creat a stunning movie. I will have to watch it again and focus more closely on the music.

I'm so glad you liked it! Hopefully, you'll see it again soon.

Re: \'The Village\' Soundtrack - Opinions?
I haven't seen The Village nor heard its music.
But i happen to know that James Newton Howard recently collaborated with Hans Zimmer (my favorite composer) in making the soundtrack for Batman Begins. That soundtrack is pretty cool
I guess i should try to listen more to the stuff from James Newton Howard, are there any albums in particular that you recommend?
(I am also a movie-music-fanatic)

Re: \'The Village\' Soundtrack - Opinions?
M. Night did another AMAZING job with the film. I suggest you at least see the movie. It's well worth your time. If you're into that genre.
Really? See, now I need to see 'Batman Begins' and judge whether or not it's any good.
Well, I've just started collecting soundtracks...but I do have a few that I adore.
The 'Star Wars' trilogy set is perfection. I adore the films as well as the music. I happen to think that without the score, the films wouldn't have succeeded to the extent that they did.
'Meet Joe Black' (Yes, the Brad Pitt version), is also extremely well done. I've followed the Newman family for some time and find that Thomas has some definite talent.
James Horner is another of my favorite composers. I'm trying to pick up the 'Apollo 13' soundtrack at the moment...but right now I have both 'Titanic' albums which are incredible.
I recommend a film called, "Life As a House." It's directed by Irwin Winkler and stars Kevin Kline, Hayden Christensen and Kristin Scott Thomas. Mark Isham at his best, soundtrack wise. It's simply beautiful. One of my favorites.
That's all I've collected so far, and I recommend all of them..if you haven't checked them out already.
Hugs!

About Batman Begins, you're right, its not the most awesome soundtrack out there but it has alot of qualities inside of it.
And i really agree with you about the Star Wars soundtracks and the Titanic soundtracks wich are both very well done.
But i must say that my favorites are Gladiator first of all and then also alot of Hans Zimmers older stuff like Toys, Broken Arrow and Rain Man. This kind of music is definetly my favorite and i love each second i hear of it.

Re: \'The Village\' Soundtrack - Opinions?
Well, the thing about 'Gladiator,' is that I can't handle a lot of violence. I'm just...too sensitive, I guess. But that's my girly side coming through...
Pay no attention to that. I'm sure that someday I'll sit down and give it a watch, but till then...my Hans Zimmer score days are numbered....
I do adore 'Rain Man.' It's so powerful. I may pick up the soundtrack soon. I agree with you, from what I've heard of Zimmer, that's one of his best...
One thing about score that's always intrigued me..was how well done disaster music is. To be more clear, 'Titanic' for instance, has some major disaster music that is well done and memorable...but I've found with other films of the action/adventure type, the music is often forgettable or non-existant. Does anyone else notice this? Do you think it has to do with the composer? Or do you think this happens because the film itself has too much going on?

Re: \'The Village\' Soundtrack - Opinions?
If you like Zimmer then maybe you won't feel too badly about Klaus Badelt... When I saw/heard "Pirates of the Caribbean" I instantly thought of Zimmer, but when the credits came I saw it was the Zimmer-"kind" Badelt who made the majority of the score, but under heavy influence of Zimmer...
My favorite part of the "PoC" is about 3½ minutes into the cue entitled "One last shot" - track 14. - You have to turn up the volume a little though, to get the full sensation... Lots of nice brassplaying.

Re: \'The Village\' Soundtrack - Opinions?
WalkingTheSky: Gladiator is a really good movie, i especially like movies that contain emotion and stuff, and most of the time the soundtrack only makes the experience better.
Corno: Yup, PoC has an awesome soundtrack and the movie itself is not to shabby either. Klaus Badelt has some really good stuff other than that aswell. For example the stuff he did for The Timemachine, really awesome music. I especially like track number 04 called "The Time Machine". Its really awesome at about 1 minute in the song.
Another track that is very awesome in that same soundtrack is track number 06 called "I Don't Belong Here".

Re: \'The Village\' Soundtrack - Opinions?
I believe the soundtrack for The Village is very unique indeed. The music is fantastic, and the violinist (can't remember her name, sorry) does a great job.
I saw the movie, for the second time, yesterday and also got around to the Bonus Material which can be found on the DVD.
There was a very interesting part about the soundscore, and the director made a quite interesting comparison between the Ivy-character (the blind girl) and the violinist: Both young and strong and very emotional. This could definitely inspire the violinist to perfrom even better....
Anyway, the soundtrack is great. It must also be very interesting to create the music for a film like The Village. Very pure and nature-like...
