Vote on your three favorite John Williams film scores (soundtracks), and please tell which three scores you chose and why, if you like... This poll can of course not list every great score made by John Williams, thus the "Other" option (please write and tell which one(s) you have selected as "Others")

You can vote on up to three scores!
* = please specify which "episode" your prefer if any

I voted on Star Wars Episode I-III mainly because i like the soundtrack for Episode 2 and 3. I also like the soundtrack of the old Star Wars Trilogy but i didnt spend any vote on it.
My second vote went to Schindler's List. Awesome soundtrack and i love the piano version of the main theme.
And last but not least i chose to vote for "Other". The one i had in mind for that vote is the soundtrack for Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic. (Wich is a videogame though).

But seriously, if i had more votes to spend then i would vote on pretty much all of them. They are all awesome.

I know, but if you could vote on all of them the poll wouldn't be any fun

I decided to use the "other" possibillities for my 3 votes:

Amistad from 1997
AI (Artificial Intelligence) from 2001
The Terminal from 2004

I chose them mainly because it's some of the more seldomly "advertised" music and some of it is what I've heard lately.

Oh, my! This poll is my heaven!

Well, my three went to both the original and prequel SW episodes and the Indiana Jones Trilogy.

JW is my all-time favorite composer. He's truly amazing and I thank you for starting this poll.

Made my day, you did.

This is what I voted (but I do agree with Sjölund that it's hard to chose):
• Star Wars Trilogy - I believe the music from the original star wars movie(s) really helped revitalize the grand scale symphonic orchestral scores. It had become out of fashion, but star wars and John Williams helped bringing it back into fashion.
• Close Encounters of the third degree (not one of the most popular scores but very good, so I thought I'd "advertise" it a little (same way as Corno did with his choices, I think

)
• Schindler's List. This was actually a hard choice (with so many other great scores) but it does do wonders in the movie

Ok, probably my favourite is Harry Potter (all of them). Not many people seem to have voted for them, maybe that's because it's aimed at the younger age group. I just think they capture the 'magic' amazingly well!!

The score to Harry Potter IS very well made with some memorable themes. Either you love John Williams "sound" or you hate him... I'm not in the latter group.

But even I get a little tired of him at times, but overall I think he does a very good job on almost every single moviescore he makes.

It would be very interesting indeed to see how he works. (call it professional curiosity)

Speaking of his work with the "Harry Potter" series, I've heard that he won't be composing the score for the next film. Could be just a rumor, but it could very well be true...

I voted for the Star Wars, I-III because I just adore the tracks, particularly the ones featured on this last one.

I also love his work with Harry Potter! I'm devastated he won't be composing the music for the next film. (yes, you're right Sky... hey by the way!)

I only knew about Williams not composing for the next film, because you told me and were so devistated! LOL! Hey, back.

I believe Patrick Doyle will do a fine job. His music isn't half-bad. Very quite, sensual, I'd say.

I doubt he'll touch the original themes, but even the score for "The Prisoner of Azkaban" held some very stylistically uncharacteristic music for John Williams, so the "transition" to another style won't be too hard I think.
The Jurassic Park movies, which John Williams also wrote the score for - that is for the two first movies - were also "given away" - the third movie was with "new music" by Don Davis ("The Matrix") and "themes" by John Williams. I think this'll be much similar.

Oh. Well. I am devastated.

Hey I wonder if he'll keep the main "Hedwig's Theme" or if he'll write a whole new score??

I'd like if he kept those themes but as corno said, he will probably do something completely different.

I'm sorry you're upset. Can you imagine how we'd feel if he decided not to do Episode III? I'd DIE! LOL! So, I understand your pain, dearie.

voted on Close encounter of the Third Kind..
as far as I remember the one where he is experimenting the most..
but mainly because I wanted to see the scores and had to put my vote somewhere..

He's skilled, but far from my favorite composer..

Well, Lyn, actually I didn't say that the new composer, Patric Doyle, would change the original themes, like Hedwig's Theme, I said that the themes would probably stay the way they are for now, but he'll probably make some non-Williams like transitions to his own original music. But, as in Jurassic Park, the themes, I guess, most probably will stay like they are.
