    Trocadero Organ

I had no idea until yesterday that the organ built by C-C for the Trocadero Palace in 1878 still survives, even if not in its original form. There can be few more historic instruments as it saw the premieres of Franck's "Three pieces", Widor's 6th Symphony and Guilmants 1st Symphony. What a week that must have been! Anyone got a time machine ?

I've read about that Trocadero a number of times, but have never really known just what it was. The organ seems to have been a four-manual C-C, and apparently some 'stars' played it. But where is it now, if it exists in some later incarnation?

    Aloha dll927,

If you want to see the original CC specification of the Trocadero organ you can visit this webpage - just scroll down after you've opened it:

    Cheers,

    Hi dll927
Apparently it's in the Auditorium Maurice Ravel in Lyon. Follow my you-tube link above, and see the info there about it.
    Best wishes John.

Something is afoot. I Googled "Trocadero", and it at least in passing mentioned the organ. It says it was destroyed in a fire. Now it turns up in an auditorium in Lyon. I've heard of "re-incarnation", but this seems a bit far-fetched. Who is right?

    Aloha dll927,

The City of Lyon saved the CC but it had much added to it by another organbuilder.

    Cheers,

    CD

Indeed, the English Wikipedia speaks about destruction by fire, but that information is quite wrong. (Could it be wishful thinking of someone who really hates Danion-Gonzalez organs? )

For once, the French Wikipedia seems to give better information: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orgue_d..._Maurice-Ravel.

    Aloha acc,

Thanx for the French Wikipedia link in re to the *Trocadero Organ* - I guess someone really has it in for *Danion-Gonzalez* - I must confess that I loathe, detest, and despise what they have done to CC's oeuvre.

    Humbly,

    CD

I've just noticed it is also the organ being played by Cochereau in this post:

When i read the subject, i thought it would be about a bottle organ made with Trocadero bottles.
