Delightful ...
When I was younger (and lots less portly ...) I always went on organ crawls. I was able to learn so much about pipe organs and their operation by going inside and looking around. I still delight in going into pipe organ chambers - always fascinating.

Liverpool Anglican Cathedral Organ spanks the Royal Albert Hall Organ anyday of the week in terms of sheer ravishing lavishness of the total organ resources and individual beauty of each stop and the acoustic space imo.

All I can say is wow!

Aloha rovikered,
I grieve to hear that you found Willis' "Magnum Opus" so overpowering and unpleasant. I surmise that some instruments will thrill and some will just cause agony - Oh well
I hope you are enjoying the material I sent you - Quite challenging, yes?
Cheers,

Another complaint of mine, CD, is that the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool is such a vast, cavernous building with little colour and no warmth.
Now, the Metropolitan Cathedral . . . how different, full of sparkle and colour, and a very lively acoustic which enhances the brilliant sounds of a fine organ when well played.
The challenge of the material you sent me is obvious at a glance, but for the moment it is in the queue, I'm afraid, as I have other things to practise first.
However, thanks and best wishes.

Aloha rk,
The Met Cathedral to me is like a giantly oversized shower stall in its acoustic ambience and the organ? Well, I won't disclose my opinion of it - I have heard it in the flesh too many times. Maestro Tracey knows how to shepherd the resources at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral to its advantage since he grew up as a chorister there under Alan Rawsthorne. Imo, there is a wealth of ambience at the Cathedral.
Cheers,

Allow me to correct you, CD. Ian Tracey was a chorister under NOEL Rawsthorne.
ALAN Rawsthorne was a British composer( and as far as I know a non-organist).
Best wishes.

Aloha rk,
Ooops - Drats!!!Your correction is gladly accepted.
Thanx for pointing out my glaring error.

H. Willis (perhaps also H&H (?) ) designed a great layout of the interior. I especially like the display of the hooded reeds. Seeing the inside of this beast makes me drool!
I've been on a crawl through the Calvary Grand Organ twice, once when it was about 60-70% complete, and another a couple years later the day after Simon Preston gave a concert (the crawl was a "consolation prize" in lieu of masterclass Mr. Preston had to cancel). It was spectacular, but very spooky; one gets access to the various divisions from a catwalk that from the top goes 60 feet straight down...
