Oops - broke something!

Hi,

Need you help troubleshooting something please folks.
During a normal practise session last night a note stuck on the great manual and would not release.
The note itself stayed down on the keyboard and nothing I could do made any difference.

I had to shut all the stops off and continue on the swell, as I had a couple coming to the church to listen to their selected wedding music.

Any ideas what could have happened, what causes it and how to fix it (the Organ tuner will be called to fix in this time, but if I understand some more about it, maybe it's something I can tackle if it happens mid service etc).

I assume it's a tracker action as then it is more "normal" that a key stays down. Tracker actions are often quite easy to fix without a professional as mechanical problems are normally caused by something jumping off its normal place and thus preventing the action to move back.

You must check the entire length of the action from the key to the valve to find out where the action is stuck. It may happen that the valve jumps off its steering sticks inside the wind chest. Turn off the organ and open the windchest and check that the valve is in place. Also check that the key itself moves freely; you should be able to lift the key but if that is not possible (the action holds it down with force), the action may be stuck in the console: the coupler mechanism is one possibility.

It should be quite easy to see if the position of one of the trackers or other parts of the action differs from the others.

If the action is not mechanical, the problem is in the key mechanics inside the console.

Without knowing the organ and dimensions of the action I cannot give any specific instructions.
