    Tango For Organ

    Aloha Dear MIMFers,

Here's another fascinating read of a famous work by Astor Piazzolla:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUm3knneA5E&fmt=18

And here it is in a version that my wife and I fell in Love with each other to and danced to. We have adopted this as our *Signature Piece* as musicians and dancers:

    Enjoy...

    Hi, CD!

Since I discovered Piazzolla I've enjoyed his music and bought quite a lot of it in piano arrangements.
'Oblivion' is one of my favourites which I play on the piano and I've enjoyed hearing the two versions you have given us links to. I can well understand how you were so affected by the piano trio version. It is a beautiful, impassioned interpretation. The organ version is interesting and prompts me to try it out on the organ. Thanks for the links.
    Best wishes.

    Hi CD...

...and thanks for sharing those links. I wasn't quite what to expect about hearing a tango on a pipe organ. At first I thought of theatre pipe organs, which I also enjoy. Instead what I found was a hauntingly beautiful melody.

Now, for your second link: OMG!!!!!! It was more than magnificent. So melancholy, sensuous, mysterious; so many feelings wrapped into a wonderful piece. I can see why you and your wife enjoy dancing to it. BTW, like the clever change of your avitar with this post.

I absolutely have loved the tango for eons as I also adore ballroom dance. I am so happy that it has made such a comeback to the mainstream in large part thanks to the dancing shows on TV. This is one piece that I would love to see choreographed and performed by the professional dancers on Dancing With The Stars. So, you know what? I'm going to mail the link and a request for them to do just that to the producers.

    Bravo!!
    Stephen

    Aloha GC,

I really got into the Tango after seeing a film entitled *Tangos: L'exilio de Gardel*. The movie wove a story about Argentinians living in Paris, having escaped from the dictatorship in Argentina. The movie illustrated a goodly portion of the life of Carlos Gardel and how important he was for the world of Tango. Featured in the film was much music by Astor Piazzolla. When I reflect on that movie I think about the Tango that is danced in Finland, Continental Europe, and Argentina. Argentine Tango, imho, is the most passionate, florid, and adept at portraying all the nuances of human behavior in all its mood swings and giddyness.

    Aloha J.P.

I was so smitten by the organ version that I immediately jumped onto the organ bench and began to play it and arrange it for different constellations of instruments accompanied with Organ and Organ solo w/ different stop combinations.

    Cheers,

It really shows just how versatile an instrument the organ is.

When I was in my young adulthood, I used to watch every dance championship that I could. My favourites leaned toward latin, so the tango really "did it" for me, as did the cha cha and samba. At that time there was a couple who by coincidence were from Canada. I loved watching them and felt sad when they retired.

I did a little research after your post got me thinking about them and found out that, miracle of miracles, they are from Montreal and have 3 studios here. Their names are Pierre Allaire and Mireille Veilleux. AND they have a Danse Sport Competition coming up in June. Perhaps now I will get to see a couple I have admired for over 20 years dance in person. I am more than hyped!

    Aloha GC,

I am elated for you since you have struck *gold* in your recent quest. I hope that your meeting with them soon will bear fruit. Yes, the organ is very versatile, and if you know its limitations as well as its strengths and if one can exploit those characteristics one might just find that one can really make music, as opposed to just simple mimicry and distasteful performance.

Thank you, CD. Even if I do not get to see this couple dance at this function, I'm sure that I will get to one day. I just can't believe that my dance idols live right in the same city! Who'da thunk?
