    two gorgeous French organs

Here is some Dandrieu played on two of the most gorgeous French classical instruments.

This music makes sooo much more sense when it's played there, in my opinion.

Thanks acc, I enjoyed those fine historic sounds, especially the magnificent Offertoire.

Thanks for adding that one, Mush!

In particular, note the Grand-Jeu at the beginning and at the end of this clip: it is very different from that of St-Maximin (heard in Dandrieu's Offertoire above). I'd say Poitiers has more "gravitas", while St-Maximin's trumpets have a more "smashing" sound.

Each one is of course stunning in its own way.

I have several of Pierre Bardon's cd's at St-Maximin, and Michel Chapuis playing Du Mage & Clerambault at Poitiers. The are magnificent organs indeed!

Speaking of French classical stuff, can anybody recognize the builder of this organ: http://dl.toofiles.com/vt2wkp/audios..._grand_jeu.wav?

(I'll eventually give the answer, but I'd like to let you guess first — please refrain from giving the answer away if you have already heard that clip somewhere else.)

Oops — it appears the link in my previous post no longer works.

Here is another one; click to download: http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/7/..._grand_jeu.wav.

    Happy guessing.

Do I suppose rightly that this is neither St-Maximin nor Poitiers?

Maybe it's about time I reveal the answer to this one: believe it or not, but this is the Cavaillé-Coll organ of St-Ouen, Rouen!! (My source for this audio file is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtcM5Q4Kf5g.) Which shows that CC reeds aren't that different from French baroque reeds (even when CC didn't re-use material from a previous organ, like he did with the Clicquot in St-Sulpice).

Wow, can't believe I didn't get that one...

I can't view YT @ work, is this an improv or a composed piece?
You're quite right acc, Cavaillé-Coll refined those reeds to an extent (mainly by upping the wind pressures), but can't honestly be said to have invented them.

It's an improvisation by Michel Chapuis.
