Pros and cons of a pick-up for classical guitar

Does anyone have an opinion they'd like to share regarding using a pick up for playing an acoustic classical guitar versus using a regular microphone? I've performed twice and each time with a microphone. The first time was fine but the second time the sound wasn't good at all. It was a little embarrassing actually and I wonder if a pick up might have spared me.

Yes! I happen to have two acoustic guitars and I have to use a
microphone. But, you can find those kind of pickups that fit right into
the sound hole and they work great. I don't perform where I need
a mike. I hope that helps.

    Thanks judy
I'd better make a decision soon because that embarrassing performance was at a local talent show and I just found out that I got through to the final.

Great! I will keep my fingers crossed for you! I hope you win! They
have pickups just for the classical guitar. I hope it works!
