1. Imitation of Life- a real life tear jerker
2. Ten Commandments- one of the best religious epics done
3. Guess who is coming to dinner- 3 great lead actors and thought provoking theme
4. The Sound of Music - great story, great music, beautiful scenery

A really hard question, but off the top of my head ...

1. The Family Way (British 1960's b+w film, imho an absolute masterpiece)
2. Blade runner (confronts one of the biggest questions of our age - what does it mean to be human?)
3. The Producers ("Where did I go right?" Hilarious.)
4. McLintock! (Best on-screen spanking ever!)
5. Walkabout (Beautiful, highly imaginative film)

Ask me tomorrow and I'd probably come up with a different 5.

I'n not that much a a movie-viewer... but there are lots of movies already listed that deserve a grade of 'A+' --

Virtually all the films in the original post, plus 'Key Largo,' 'Ten Commandments,' 'The Producers,' 'Dr. Zhivago.' 'Magnificent Seven' is a nice selection- but I think there's something to be said for the old original 'Seven Samurai.'

My list, though, will include films not yet mentioned:

1. Ben-Hur
2. The Battleship Potemkin
3. Rashomon
4. Chariots of Fire
5. The Passion of the Christ

Always hard to rate like this, but fun though:cool:

The Last Temptation of Christ by Martin Scorsese
(Not to be confused with Passion of Christ by Mel Gibson)

Shine

Shining

2001 A Space Odyssey

Natural Born Killers.

I guess it says more about me than the films - doesn't it:grin:

By the way - GREAT MUSIC / SOUNDTRACKS in ALL films
If you like Peter Gabriel, you MUST watch The Last Temptation of Christ
