I loved all the music, too, especially the very grand number during the lighting of the beacons in Return of the King. It's every bit as majestic as the spectacular scenery on the screen. It's been a while since I've had a Lord of the Rings film festival in my lounge room ...

It's one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard, totally fitting the movies, even though there is a considerable influence of Gliere and Prokofiev (Alexander Nevsky) in the score. The three closing songs are marvellous, espcially Annie Lennox' Into the west and even better Emialiana Torrinni's Gollums song (both are amongst my all-time favourite songs).

Art Rock - whilst I thought the Lord of the Rings sound track (at least for the one I watched) was good. I didn't think it was original in the slightest. I mean, I know it's not from Hollywood, but had that feel to it ... I wonder what Hollywood movie music scores would have turned out like had not Gustav Holst, Richard Strauss and Wagner not been around.
I'm not an atheist and I don't think I can call myself a pantheist. We are in the position of a little child entering a huge library filled with books in many different languages. The child knows someone must have written those books. It does not know how. The child dimly suspects a mysterious order in the arrangement of the books but doesn't know what it is. That, it seems to me, is the attitude of even the most intelligent human being toward God.

Hey people, well, all the music from LOTR is awsome, but my personal favorite is the song that Pipin sings when faramir is sent to osgiliath and his father is eating, that song really gives me chicken skeen

I'd forgotten that one, Askanishkillo, thanks for the reminder. That really is a touching moment and I think the actor, Billy Boyd, wrote the song. Poor Faramir!

I also forgot to mention in my other post that when I saw Return of the King the first time I thought I noticed something odd about the time signature at one stage when the Orc army was marching on the city. I went back to the cinema and counted ... they were "marching" in 5/4 time.
