Re: Anybody listen to hip hop?

I can't say that I listen to much rap/hip-hop anymore.

As someone mentioned earlier, I'm a sucker for rock influenced by hip-hop. I'm kinda embarrassed to mention this but Linkin Park is the band that eased me back into rock from rap. "Mash-Ups" are getting big over here in the States. Mash-up are basically rock songs that the DJ blends a 50 cent hit into it for example.

I'm also a sucker for the classics:

    Run DMC
    Old Puff Daddy stuff
    2pac(Changes is my favorite )

    And some newer stuff like:

    Kanye West
    Outkast
    N.E.R.D.

I'm sure I like a lot of other artists I just can't think of them right now.

Everyone has a different musical taste, although I wouldn't consider rap "music."

    Interesting opinion
Is your statement mere disapproval of the genre or is it anchored in the generally accepted definition of the term music??? I feel the former applies here. Correct?? The mediocre formats contained therein notwithstanding! Rap/Hip Hop IS music.

BTW Jette/ Rune you should check out the nu jazz/hip hop act Impromp2. If you like 2Pac's Changes, Impromp2 maybe something you MAY like. Another hip hop off shot I enjoy, are jazzy interpretations of contemporary hiphop songs from ensembles like Streetwize (Sax player Kim Waters et al), albums like The Hidden Beach Recordings-Unwarpped Vol I,II&III that features artists like Jeff Lorber, violinist Karen Briggs and more).

Technically yes, it is music. But for me, music is something that I enjoy listening to. I dislike hip-hop, and do not enjoy listening to it the least bit. So in my opinion, hip-hop is not music.

Even in this style (hip hop) of music probably to find a good song. But if to tell the truth I don't like this style of music, I prefer more to listen to songs Sade I hope that you know this singer

I like listening to hip hop now and again, and have a soft spot for the Black Eyed Peas. I also like Run DMC of old especially "Walk this Way".

I will listen to anything if it appeals to me. I'm a sucker for good lyrics so there are plenty in rap and hip-hop. I go all the way back to Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel who introduced the World to politics in rap. It was around before but 'The Message' was the first big hit.

    I also like:

    Run DMC
    Beastie Boys
    Arrested Development
    Eminem
    Outkast
    NERD
    The Streets

I'm willing to listen to anything and that includes rap but there is a lot of rubbish around as well. I'm not keen on the misogynistic and homophobic side.

Only P. Diddy, Kanye West and Fifty Cent. It's not that I don't want to listen to the others but as these are the best exponents then I don't see the point of trying the others, I've got better stuff to listen to. Eminem always annoyed me.

I listen to this genre from time to time but I am not really a fan. I think what makes me listen to a hip-hop song is the beat because I can hardly identify what is the lyrics.
