Hi Ryan,

First of all I would like to give you credit for the very nice design of your webpage - it is very very nice!!!

I have been listening to your songs (the 3 songs available on the webpage) a couple of times now and I can tell that there is a quite obvious difference between the tracks.

Before I write any more, I would like you to keep in mind that I do not listen to pop/rock music very often so maybe the review is not perfect in terms of interpretation of the music.

My favourite track is by far number 3, "No Control", which I find really appealing for my own preferences in terms of rythmical music. Very nice catchy piano play and an overall melancolic feeling. I also like the structure of the track and that fact that you introduce some strings at around 1:45. Unfortunately the sound of the strings is very syntetic and it is clear that their origin is a computer

But besides that, that track is harmonic and definately my favourite track of the 3.

Track 1 and 2 are a alot different from track 3 in terms of sound and instrumentation. You use drums, strings, a little bit of brass and also a synth sound in track 1 which is, in my opinion, too acid-like and also too loud in terms of volume in comparison to the rest of the track. The drum-programming is okay but your strings are not great.
Personally I think that track 2 is a bit of a mess when talking about the vocals. I think you have a pretty nice voice but on this track you should consider transposing the music a bit as you are clearly not comfortable singing the high notes.

Now, I have only heard the above mentioned tracks, but as I see it, you are at a crossroad at the moment. You could go down the path of mainstream pop (like the sound on track 1 and 2) or you could explore the more melancolic sound (track 3).
It sounds like you are more comfortable and genunine when performing track 3, and your vocal seems more fit for that kind of music.

Personally, I hope you will make more music like the song "No Control", as I really like that kind of sound (when speaking about "mainstram" music).

I am looking forward to hearing some more from you - please post again when you got new material ready

Bye for now

I agree with Rune about your site. It's very well done!

As for your tunes, and please don't be offended, I'm offering my opinion only for your benefit (potentially)... I wasn't sure if I was really supposed to take it seriously. I mean, the sound, and the lyrics are all very comical (mostly and especially in "I've Got a Girlfriend"). I'm kind of assuming that this was your intention, and if it wasn't, I'm going to feel like a real ass, and I'm terribly sorry for not having found a more polite way to express my thoughts.

"No Control" is on the track to being a nice composition. The tempo seemed a bit off, or too slow to me though. However, like Rune said, this is where you should be with your voice and singing style. It's the only song of the 3 where I felt that you were actually comfortable.

If I was going to recommend any kind of improvement, I guess I would recommend being a little bit more rough/aggressive, and maybe a little lower in your vocals, and mix it up a bit with some more highs and lows in your more up-tempo tunes. Keep making your gloomy-tunes (for a lack of a better term) like "No Control", it suites yor style well.

Hope you can take something positive from my rather inferior review. Good luck.

Thanks so much

Rune/Jason,

I'd like to thank you gentlemen very much for talking the time to listen to my music, and review my website, as you were the only people that did so!:D Your comments are very much appreciated, and won't go unnoted.

The 3 songs that are currently still in their infancy stage (as far as production/recording/mstering). Hence, "I've Got a Girldfriend"'s exceedingly loudness in volume. At this stage I'm trying to get as much feed back as possible before I go into the studio. The final version of the songs will have real players playing the music (thank goodness - the MIDI trumpet sounds in "I'm not Superman" are driving me nuts).

"I've Got a Girlfriend" is about me waiting for my friends, to go to a Japanese-Korean restaurant (like the lyrics indicate). I was aiming for a light hearted, easy going-internet connection type sound! I'm glad you guys picked up on this!

"I'm Not Superman" to tell you the truth, it gives me mixed feelings too, but to my suprise I get a 50/50 response from people here in Canada. It's one of those tunes that you like it or don't. It's great upbeat fun! This song is about people wanting too much from me, and I'm letting them know I'm not Superman, and the origin of the lyrics are supposed to be me venting my frustrations! The trumpet sounds help! lol.

"No Control" was for a friend that passed away from AIDS. This song wasn't supposed to be a joke. I hope you didn't get that vibe from this tune. Now, to be fair, you guys didn't know my friend, but he was the type of guy that was always in your face upbeat, full of energy. The lyrics try to descibe his personality. In the chorus the "beans" are referring to his monthly medication; pills. I'm geting positive feedback on this song from everyone. Rune my friend - I'm sorry the strings aren't real enough! I plan to have better ones on the final version! Finally, after I get this song done in the studio, any royalties I receive, I would like to donate it to AIDS research. No one should have to lose a friend or family member to this terrible disease.

As for singing, I've only been doing it for a short while (a little over a year). When my voice is ready I'll go to a studio and have the songs done properly. Overall (on track 1 & 2) I was attempting was to make some really catchy pop tunes where people could remember the lyrics, and have fun with! I think it worked.

I hope you guys cracked a few smiles and sang along, and will continue to sing along! I have many more songs on the way. Soon, I will be sending out another news letter, were I describe more about the origin of the songs, new songs coming, and discuss the lyrics. I don't share email information with any third party members, so don't be shy to sign up. ;D

Rune/Jason thanks again for taking the time to check out the site and songs, and for reading this reply! I will keep you posted on the songs, I wonder what Frederik thinks? Maybe he might interested in commissioning some real players for me? hmmm... what an idea. ;D

Thanks again guys, all the best, and I'll talk to you soon,
-Ryan Peplinski

PS. Rune, I do have another meloncholeyesque/romantic tune coming, It's called C4.

Re: Thanks so much

Ryan, just wanted to let you know that I didn't find "No Control" comical at all. I was referring mostly to "I've got a Girlfriend". I commend you for your efforts, and find it very admirable what you are doing to help battle AIDS.

Same here.
Very nice of you to donate comissions to the battle against AIDS. In that sense I really hope that the song will be released at some point!!!

Looking forward to the new stuff - please inform us when it is available for download/stream

Re: Thanks so much

Hey Guys,

Your comments didn't come across as offensive at all (just so we're on the same page). Nor was I under any impression that you guys thought "No Control" was comical (if it was that way it would be my fault, because I composed it). One thing that's the most rewarding to a composer (I think personally) is evoking some kind of emotion. I am very pleased with my results, and I really do appreciate the time you took to listen. More songs to come!

All the best,
-Ryan

PS. I should post some of my classical/instrumentals.
