Using jOrgan as a front-end to GrandOrgue

    Hi Everyone,

I've just completed a draft of a tutorial that teaches how to use jOrgan as a front-end to GrandOrgue. GrandOrgue does not yet support Crescendo pedals and a few other things, so I use jOrgan as a MIDI relay controller of GrandOrgue to get a great looking virtual pipe organ on my screen and a great sounding vpo through my speakers :-)

If you're interested in doing the same, you can download the tutorial from
    http://cid-c6dd879f60fadf98.skydrive...aObahO0EenU%24

Download the jOrganGrandOrgue_Tutorial_17.09.09.rar file and decompress it with Winrar, 7zip, or your favorite decompression utility.

Please let me know what you think. If you have difficulty with any section please post about that section so that the tutorial can be improved for all users.

    Have fun!

    Hi again Graham.
I struggle for months now with J-Organ project(i downloaded allmost every related stuff), just to see if I can get an organ copletely as I want it (using also my own samples of Schnitgers & Flentrops in wav format) and doesn't get what I want yet. I just got your tutorial.Obviusly I missed some episodes here, but I can make it with the rest of you. I'll work it out and I 'll post here my progress.

    Hi Panos,
If you have any questions on the tutorial, or anything else sample/jOrgan/GrandOrgue, etc., please continue to ask and we'll try to find an answer

    Hi Graham!
I have not started yet workin' on your tutorial (I had some urgent cases in my office) but I will and send you my resoults here.
I found some great dispositions for jOrgan from PC Stratman free virtual instrumens and I dowloaded the two Silbermanns. I just want to hear a sound from jOrgan! Anyway I loaded Sophienskirche Silbermann disposition and wile I saw the large console and every stop worked fine the sound came from a GM synth somewere in my PC with brass sounds !
The main problem with my jOrgan(the latest version too) is that when Itry to use fluidsynth a message comes telling there is an unexpected error and must shut down jOrgan. Allways.
Anyway I will go for many trials ahead and I'll try to write here what I do step by step
I hope that all this interests other members too

Greetings from hot Athens (22degr C today..)

    Hi Panos,
It sounds like you have the 64-bit version of Java installed... the fluidsynth extension only works with the 32-bit version. I would suggest that you un-install Java, then download the 32-bit version and install it. Then test jORgan again...

Thanks again Graham.I've got the 64bit system due to my fast dual core Intel/ 4GB memory I wanted to run Haupwerk and other exellent programs. I think I've got somewere the 32bit Java, but, can I have them both in my system? I mean some other program may need the 64bit Java...

    Hi Panos,
You can have both on your system... but if you don't know of any other JAVA apps I'd still suggest taking Java 64-bit off and just having the 32-bit...

Well I've tried the tutorial and it doesn't work for me, in addition the screen entry method is far too cumbersome to even think of attempting more than about a dozen stops if that. I've had a look at the files it generates and don't find them easy to understand, they look more like HTML or C++ than the fairly easy to read and understandable .organ files.

The idea is great, but the implementation is dire in my view. It is not difficult to operate the stops on the GO screen except that if you are using a Midi file to play GO the file usually starts with all notes and controls off commands, by the time you have clicked on the stops you want, you could well be 3 or 4 measures into the work. If the piece has any repeats then quite often "all off" commands occur again.

I have yet to find a Midi editor which lets you edit programme change (Cx) commands except for a Hexadecimal programming editor.
    Cheers MIKE.

Hi Mike ! You're right for one more time... It didn't worked for me too, I've got big problems to undertand the logic behind the thing, and also I cannot get a sound out of jOrgan...yet..
I'll drop it for some time just to relax my mind from lot of electro stuff, to concetrate a bit on a little playin' with my growing VPorgan collection.
    Thanks
    Panos
