    He was a great actor who could play any part from a spy to a bin man, but perhaps he will be most remembered for this ...

    Thank you for that John, he will be missed. I remember watching him in Callan, and the Equaliser. He was really versatile.

    Always had a soft spot for him. I remember the original Wicker Man scaring the crap out of me when I first saw it as a kid (my parents were furious when they found out I'd seen it!). Woodwards performance at the end topped the overall, unsettling horror.

    Callan of course - brilliant,
    and as the unlikely vigilante McCall in The Equaliser. Being from the antipodes, I thought his portrayal as Breaker Morant was thoroughly compelling. He even made the best of a bad thing in the rather dreadful The New Professionals.

    Not forgetting he also had a damn fine singing voice. A sad loss indeed.
