Hi folks,

Just wondering, is anyone familiar with the 70`s song Hokus Pokus by the Dutch group Fokus? I really like it- cool, and funny. http://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hej Jette, thanks for responding.

Couldn`t find anywhere one could listen to it, and I don`t have it. One can read reviews of Focus`s music at amazon, but no free listen. http://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

This might remind you, or anyone, of this song- it`s a rock tune with yodeling in it. http://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

With Thijs van Leer and the famous dutch gitarist Jan Akkerman... Thijs also played along with Ayreon on his "Into the electric castle" album. Great album from another great Dutch artist/band/concept.

Hi there,

maybe, if you like focus, you could try listening to Ekseption too. Ekseption is also a progressive rock band from the early 70's (and also Dutch).

Yvw rojo,

Ayreon is also a fantastic band/concept. Maybe u've heard about it. It's not Focus and it's not early 70's prog symphonic rock, but I think it's wurthwhile to listening to it.

Greetings from my house on mars (Ayreon),

MNeMoNiC.

Hi Rojo

Spelling it wrong

"FOCUS" and "HOCUS POCUS" when published in English and yes I think there is a stream of it somewhere I'll try to find the site and drop you it. Some of this bands work has been criticised, it has been called "documentary film music" and the like.
Shocking when you think they pre-date Tangerine Dream using basically acoustic instruments.

See someone else helped you out I think that album "Moving Waves" is still available on CD but not vinyl.

I loved Focus. I had the live album that had Thijs Van Leer singing the introductions to the band during 'Hocus Pocus'. 'Hocus Pocus' was the Thijs van Leer based classic with him yodelling his head off and playing flute. The Jan Akkerman classic where the guitar featured more heavily was 'Sylvia'.

Both of these tracks were in the British charts at the same time - Focus never came back.

Hello guys,

sorry I'm maybe a bit too late with this topic... ok, I'm new for this forum too. I chance to have a video of FOCUS and find it really interesting - well, Thijs van Leer plays Hammond not THAT mad as, say, Keith Emerson - but it is worth seeing ( and hearing ) anyway. How many of you can play both Hammond, flute and make yodeling ( sometimes simultaneously )? And... one more interesting piece of the Focus - Hamburger Concerto.

keep on rockin'

Last night I played 2 lp's, Focus III and Hamburger Concerto. It was great. Last record was Brand-X "Livestock".

Hamburger concerto is my favourite Focus album, especially the title track. Fantastic band and what a pity that most people only know them from Hocus Pocus.

Some of the best gigs of the 70's for me Hocus Pocus,House of The King, and the album Moving Waves should sort you out.
