Just Some Pat Metheny

I must admit that I haven't previously listened to Pat Methany (having for some reason mentally classified him as too progressive) However that sound was really nice and I will retreat to Spotify to hear more.
Will comment further later.

Cheers John

Hello John,

Pat Meth is not for everybody but he does have some really fine albums to his credit. Lyle Mays, his keyboard sidekick, has his Hamburg Steinway Concert Grand on tour...You can hear the thundering chords. Then there is Pat's album *First Circle* which has some really fine tracks...like *If I Could*:

HI to all ! and Hi and thanks br CD.

I follow Pat metheny/Lyle Mays group from the first LP. I wach them live in Athens in the summer of 1980, talked to Lyle at the sound check and see the Steinway on stage along with his set-up of OB4voice, Prophet5, Autoharp and Kurzweil 250 (before Synclavier came along).
There is an extremely good LP with the two of them "Wicthita Falls" with Nana Vasconcelos on percussion.
Their work before "first circle" is more inovative and fresh, maybe with the guidence of Manfred Eicher of ECM records. After that they created their label at Geffen, where Lyle made two solo albums, and I believe they copied themselves. Still very good music though.
I heard first time Pat Metheny before the group, as a session guitarist in Gary Burton's Lp's in ECM, "Music of Carla Blay" and "Passengers". Still got them along with almost all of Pat Metheny's Group recordings.

Nice link, full of youth memories...
Thanks Br.

Thank you CD for the Youtube reference
The beautiful peaceful music is equal to the scenary and confirms my positive view of Pat Metheny.
I have checked out a good range of his CDs available to hear on Spotify, and when I am in a suitably contemplative mood I wont hesitate to return to his music

Cheers John

I'm glad I could help you in some degree - Ah, but I have forgotten to mention his solo album *One Quiet Night* where he does magic on an Acoustic Baritone Guitar. The track entitled *East is East and West is West* is Pat Meth full of Pathos and Bathos - My wife and I love it!!!

I clicked on the utube link you posted and it was the first piece of music that came on. Not my usual choice of music but I really loved it.

Just listened to it again and you have really got me hooked. I suppose I should have asked what track it was rather than which album.
Thanks

Hi CD and all !

There's a piece of Pat's that I like the most of him, since it first came out 30 years or so back.
Here he plays it with Metropool Philharmonic Orch.

Mark Scholten does a lovely soprano sax solo and Pat's Synclavier (midi) Guitar 's on fire ! He express his agony (still in 2007...) to if she's goin' with him....
(Sorry..no Lyle Mays....)
Cheers
