I've been debating for some time if to download a set of 7 albums of Bach played on various Silbermann organs from the Baroque music library, ($5.95 each)

Has anybody got any of these? I have downloaded other works from them, some Bach on pedal harpsichord, and John Stanley keyboard concerti, some of their items are at 128Kb, some at 256KB, not sure what the Silbermann ones will be.

I'm not an organist so don't know the finer points to look for, I like what I hear in most of the sample clips. I don't recognise any of the performers names but that does not have to imply poor performances, can anyone give me a verdict, in a buy/don't buy, value for money or not context?

I do not know any of these organists also. Sorry for that.

But from the samples I listen to (almost all of them) I believe they are good recordings (close to the console sound) and good perfomances with professional registrations. Also on great Silbermann organs of witch I;m a maniac fan.
Thanks for the link, I like the pictures of all Silbermanns involved too.

It's hard for me to be objective though, 'cause I'm stuck with Walcha, Stockmeier, Claire-Alain, Hurford, Roth, Coopman and that short of master players and when I listen to a JSBach work, automaticly expect to hear something from their touch....

@Dorsetmike: I think the Hans Otto recording at Freiberg may be a reissue of his old Denon CD (http://www.amazon.com/Hans-Otto-organ-Performs-Denon/dp/B000P1B0NU); the others are a mystery to me.

I didn't have time to check it out. I doubt if this boxset (Berlin Classics) is entirely the same: BWV 565 f.i. is played by Herbert Collum, Dorfkirche Reinhardtsgrimma.
But some of the recordings might be taken from it, and it's worth mentioning anyway:

Recordings from the sixties and seventies; most organs weren't restored yet at that time .... soundling 'less perfect', but it's interesting to hear many (late) organists in this oeuvre on these interesting organs.

Member Ghekorg7 AKA Panos played BWV 1091 (Das alte Jahr vergangen ist) for us in the Electronic/Digital Organs-thread .... a bit worried if he played it too fast.

Well, Panos, you may relax even more now : here's a sample of Werner Jacob playing this piece on the Silbermann organ in Arlesheim.
Must have been one of the first recordings of this Neumeister-chorale, shortly after the discovery that made the Bach Year 1985 extra special.
Alas, it's now part of another cycle that has gone OOP recently (though some copies of boxsets and single discs might still be available on the net).
I added Jacob's performance of BWV 1092 (Herr Gott, nun schleuß den Himmel auf), providing the listener with a nice contrast in mood.

rMike; I listened to many of the samples and I did not find any I did not like.. Must always remember: There are many very good organist out there who will not be famous due to many things : 1. not being in the right place at the right time 2. associated with famous organist and organs( churches. 3. benefactor ( money) needed to become famous and get the connections. 4. a famous or highly respected teacher.. and the list goes on and on. So I think from what I heard it would be a good investment and remember there are a number of interrpretations as to how Bach ( or anyopne else) should be played etc etc.. Bach is dead and can not tell us... only thing I know is that many times I firmly believe it is played to fast!!!! and must interpolate where it was written and performed at that time. My 2 cents ot pence worth.

I'm glad I did a different registration on 1091 and played manualiter.
Jacob uses the Cornet with all 5 ranks and soft choir for easy background : typical choral registration, as I did in 731 (with cornet minus the 2' stop).

My approach was more like a fugue for manual. A bit extreme?

1092... great as it should !

Dunno, I'm sorry to say.
I tried the link myself to be sure: no problems.

Maybe it's got something to do with your security settings: either of your anti-virus software or your browser/explorer?

One of my favourite chorale preludes/arrangements by Bach is BWV 686 Aus tiefer Not schrei' ich zu dir, part of the Clavier-Übung III.

Here's a slow yet intense and monumental reading of this great piece, by Cor van Wageningen on the Schnitger (et cetera) organ of the Martinikerk, Groningen, NL.

Hi Marc and all,

My Emsisoft Antimalware blocks Mediafire as a suspicious/malware host so my browsers say cannot find or load the pages....
Everytime Emsi does that, it is sure something bad is about to be inserted into my system.
I tried a couple a times to go with Emsi closed, worked but I ended up with malware stuff and I had to do a deep scan to remove..... and this scan here lasts over 5 hours...

And speaking of ,malware cookies, just entering Magle IMF one or two of them are being blocked by Emsi and then I go in here.

Lars, Rojo are you aware of this ? cluster.dk or like that is the one I usually see being blocked.
