Colin, Do you think these Classical wallahs should be allowed to invade our (sub) forum.
By the way I thought that it was spelt Johnno? (But of course in England it is spelt Johnnie and in Scotland I would think Jock- heaven only knows what in Wales or Ozz)

Anyway I bought a Cannonball Adderley CD (Jazz Manifesto) having been brainwashed by teddy-it turned out much better than I thought it would,
much better than that Preacher stuff.

Sorry if I've offended those who might have been contributing to this thread (having referred to them as Classical Wallahs).
Anyway I have recently purchased CDs by:-
frank Sinatra with Artie Shaw
Tony bennett with Count basie
and lena Horne with Sammy Davis
so perhaps too entrenched a stance on what and what isn't jazz no longer holds up from my point of view.

Cheers John

An interesting point john, the old and tested definition of purley improvised music does stand up IMO that does not mean rehearsals are taboo, but playing in a jazz style from a score is not jazz :)

Just ordered Shadows and Light. Pat Metheny and Joni Mitchell not to mention the absolute plethora of other talented musicians featuring on this album
If this is half as good as I expect I will be over the moon.

(It's not often I award anything the ubiquitous banana dance.)

I just d/l the Benny Goodman Carnegie concert, very disappointed as I have the Original vinyl LP set which is in very good condition but has a wee bit of surface noise but the d/l is rubbish full of crackles and pops.

i didnt buy any cds today, but what i did buy got me so excited i just cant believe it. i went to an estate sale in buffalo ny, and sitting in a box was a complete set of w.bruyninckx discographys all 30 volumes. the price was 20 bucks for the lot, incredible. it is something i have always wanted but could never afford. i have already put the books to use, by looking up unlisted personel on several of my albums. gord
