There was a thread similar to this one in the jazz forum, but I thought I'd start specifically for classical music.

I have ordered a solo piano disc by Sven-Erik Back.

Is that the name of the composer, performer, or both?
I just ordered a major end-of-school-year/pre-father's-day haul from Amazon.
I do not usually splurge like this but it was a difficult year.

Whispers Out of Time: Works for Orchestra by Roger Reynolds

I haven't heard any of these works with the exception of a couple of Carter's string quartets; and Reynolds, Marshall, and Creshevsky are completely new composers for me.

Back is the name of the composer. The performer is Roland Pöntinen.
All of those look great, Fretless, especially the Henze symphonies.

The score of Kaikhosru Sorabji's *Symphonic Variations* for piano - It takes about 9 hours to perform it - A real humdinger........

Wow! I've seen some of the scores for Sorabji's works (1st/2nd Piano Sonatas) and to even be able to contemplate playing them is beyond me

If Sorabji is scary to you then try something easier, like Ronald Stevenson's *Passacaglia*...

Well, a most fitting and proper preparation for Sorabji would be Messiaen's *Vingt regards sur L'enfant-Jesus*........

As a matter of fact, I am playing one of the Vingt Regards. No. 2, Regard de l'Etoile, which is one of the easier ones as far as I am aware

That's quite a haul. Who is performing the Beethoven and Shostakovich?

Recent arrivals include-

Munch- Boston Symphony- Schubert 8 & 9: because I've been too long without a Schubert 8 opening movement Allegro Moderato that's more Allegro than Moderato.

Massenet Werther- London SO- Pappano

Gounod Faust- Toulouse- Plasson

Berlioz Les Troyens complete- London SO- C. Davis

and only the Berlioz remains on the unlistened-to pile!:)
