• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

Matt, are there any ways in Aus of appealing an unfair dismissal? Sounds as though there is some dirty work behind the scenes too.

Yes you've nailed it Mike, there has been plenty of dirty work behind the scenes. Ever since the musically ignorant administration nepotically appointed the equally musically ignorant incumbent director, there has been nothing but one tale of woe after another - and frankly I don't care who reads this. The cathedral has become a laughing stock, and personally, I think I'm better off out of it for now. It just the injustice and disrespect toward what I've given to the place over 20 years that burns me.

Unfortunately, an unfair dissmissal claim is not viable because I was essentially (at the time) an "independent contractor". No amount of business legalese however can alter the fact that this treatment is amoral (but that's corporate business for you, as we all know).

A few lines to a muck raking newspaper?

A few musician friends to send "shocked" letters/emails to he media? (sort of "why has this been allowed to happen?" or "another example of the ...")

It's under consideration, there has been some interest, in fact, I've already been contacted by someone from the broadcast media.

The other thing that concerns me gravely is the lying spin that the incumbent guy is capable of putting on these incidents. It's well known by now that the choir left a year ago because of him, and yet when asked about the absence of the choir by someone who was unaware of it all, his response was along the lines of "I had to let them go, they weren't good enough for me." I'm damned if I'm going to have someone so perilously devoid of credible musical skill, similarly attempt to besmirch my reputation.

"I had to let them go - They were not good enough for me". Hooo boy! Man, that dude is delusional and in denial. :shake::shake::shake:

. . . his response was along the lines of "I had to let them go, they weren't good enough for me."

That is low ... good grief ... what a dooshbag ....

He had "to let them go?" ... most likely even the Mormon Tab choir wouldn't be "good enoug" for him either. Cretins like that need to be ex-communicated from the church.

I should probably point out that that's what I heard second-hand. Whilst I may have no solid evidence to support it, by the same token, I have no reason to dismiss it either, particularly given his other behaviours. The thing that's the most obvious in all this is in reality, it's that the choir was too good for him and justifiably unwilling to sink down to his level.

Registration help - first verse and last verse of a basic hymn on my instrument

Hi all

I feel that this is one area I am poor and need to learn. I love full organ but need to learn that you can't do this all the time. I'm attaching the NPOR spec for my organ. If anyone were to accompany the congregation on basic hymns what would you typically use for the first verse and then the last?
I'm quite interested to know where I'm going wrong really as I do feel I use too many stops.

I have just caught up with this link and was disgusted with what you have told us. Have you had any results yet.? It is unbelievable the lengths some buggers will go to to get their own way. I hope you are making some progress

Sadly there has been little progress. The despot in question has faked his way through a number of issues since mine and the principal organist's dismissal. There is apparently someone else playing there now. Assuming he's being paid the same as I was, this proves that the reasons for my dismissal were obviously nothing to do with finances, and were personal. This sad excuse for a "director" is a despicable, deceitful narcissist. It's impossible to describe the disgust I feel at the thought of him.

Waffle and smart suits over results and experience... sounds all too familiar in most occupations at the moment :-(
