• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

Another Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ is being resurrected from non-use. This particular one, one of three built by Skinner for Arizona churches, will be installed this summer.

Here's the local newspaper article.

The article mentions a public concert in October ... that inaugural concert will be performed by your humble forum staffer, me :).

Hi David,

Haven't ironed out the final program as yet - waiting for the stoplist that will be available for the first phase (approx 10 rks). The donations for the 2nd phase have been pouring in quickly, so there could be between 4 & 8 additional ranks by October ... or not. The 3rd and final phase will add the final number of ranks to make a total of 25 rks.

It's a long and narrow nave - with excellent acoustics.

Congrats my friend. I am sure it will be work but fun at the same time. I have always liked and enjoyed playing the Aeolian-Skinner organs. Look forward to hearing some of the concert. Enjoyed the news article too.

That's great news, Lars. Congratulations. Is the television going to be there, too? ;-)

I hope they are not going to televise it ... yikes!!

For sure though, I will be recording it on my H4.

So, that leaves over 3 months to prepare yourself .... make it a good one! :)

How does one find out about these giant old organs that are stuffed in some storage shed? I've always wondered that...
What are you going to play, Krummhorn? I'm sure it will be a great concert.

Hi BethWagner,

In this particular case, a local organ builder knew this particular church was seeking to replace a toaster with a pipe organ. These organ builders seem to have a network all their own knowing where these gems are, and what kind of price to ask for them.

I haven't yet finalized my program - I'm waiting for a stoplist of which ranks will be available for a concert in October.
There's a chance, slim at best, that the organ may have 15 ranks working by then.

Hi Krummhorn,

That is good news to hear, an organ that is going to be resurrected. I am sure you will do it justice, hope we can hear it.

Hi!

Amazing! Brilliant! The pipe organ lives . . . and yet another toaster inspires replacement by pipes. Certainly good news!

Best wishes

CT64,

I suppose you say *toaster* with tongue firmly in cheek - If not, *toaster* implies an organ that is purchased like an electrical appliance - at rock-bottom prices mind you........:shake::shake::shake:
