Hi I've been getting into some Jazz 3 pieces like The Bad Plus, The Neil Cowley Trio and (em). Just wondering if anyone had any recommendations of similar? Cheers:)

Welcome aboard Ben (I like your non-de-plume, so brief),
I hadn't heard of your two mentioned groups, but a quick check on Spotify allowed me to confirm they are piano trios you are talking about.
I found The Bad Lot more agreeable to my taste than the others though they probably wont grow on me.
As for similar types, I'm not sure any come to mind (they are very "modern" and that is not always a good term to oldtimers like me)
The closest I can get is Theloneous Monk.

Cheers John

Thanks guys I'll give them a listen, also discovered a band called trichotomy, on the same label as Neil Cowley Trio. Similar sort of thing, which I must admit I'm quite partial to. Ben

Ben! You seem like a young man interested in coming out into the jazz world.
Please, if you're a pianist, think in soundtrack terms, not just what's become traditional.
The piano alone can be considered the jazz element,
and bass and drums can be stylized to conform to different genres.
If your music is to be versatile you'll need these influences to accumulate as jazz.
So please, don't configure your expectations of other musicians with similar recordings.
Gigs with piano, going from bass'n'drums to upright accompaniment, is hard core pro.

Hi Ben and welcome, I can't make out if you are a musician or a listener

Mainly a listener, I've played a bit of guitar and smidge of drums in my younger days, but that was in the indie rock type genre. Probably first got excited by jazz when I heard unusual covers of songs well known to me, I was interested in the many manys that the music could be taken. I envy jazz musicians, who seem to be able to make the near impossible seem easy, especially when it comes to drumming.

Ben Have you heard of Esbjorn Svensson. Don't know if its quite what you are looking for but it is a piano led jazz trio. You will find them on youtube of spotify.
