we all know what kind of jazz each member of this forum likes to listen to the most, but it could be interesting to find out what kind of music your wife or husband likes, or do they hate jazz. my wife only likes big bands like harry james or tommy dorsey and vocals not jazz but swing like sinatra, haymes or buble. i had better not put on a monk cd on the car stereo, or else. gord

Thats easy - My wife and I are hardcore Jazz fanatics, and our Bach and Rachmaninoff coexist with Jazz beautifully.

My wife does not care for jazz, although she will listen to Sade, who I feel would make a good jazz singer, her music being on the edge of jazz. I managed to play Letter from Home by PM while on holiday, but that is as far as I could get. I am trying to educate her, either that or wait for her to go deaf so I can play my music all day.

My wife doesn't care for true jazz either.
She can just about tolerate most swing bands and actively likes Glen Miller,
Sinatra, Jack Jones, Como, and Andy Williams.
However she wouln't dream of listening to most of my favourite stuff'.
I have to listen to that on my computer (on my own ), or using earphones with my CD player.
There are many compensations however.

Cheers John

My wife professes to likeing Glen Miller, but I have never heard her play/request it. I'm sure if I bought her any it would sit unplayed in the rack.

I actually played my new Barney Kessel Cd ALOUD with Her Indoors listening today.
Either I'm converting her or she's going deaf.

My wife actually listened to three hours of jazz with me the other night. I have to admit we were sharing some rather nice red we brought back from France, which may have mellowed her. I will keep working on it. We may even end up with another forum member.

Anybody suggest any jazz containg strings. Wife has just told me she does not like piano music (???) but likes strings (I think she means violins). Help salvage my marriage, if not my sanity. ( Not big band as she likes glen miller anyway)

Spouses tend to enjoy a spate of jazz now and again. Some Zappa or Metheny, but no Michael Buble. I know of a spouse who enjoyed free jazz during intimate moments. Oh wait, that was a scene in "jerry macguire"....

May I suggest the Turtle Island String Quartet? They really do swing well.

Was that a big band recording? Some sets of ears are very taken to the sound of mass brass.

not really a big band, but a ten piece group.i am convinced it was the tango rhythm that she really liked, because i know she loves dance music. gord
