teddy! It's one thing to get covered in lava, it's another to erupt to get there.
How old is that volcano?

JHC! During a Niagara Gorge hike, hydro workers let me enter a repair door to enter an armature chamber,
at the bottom of the Queenston-Lewiston Generating Plant, where they let me touch a spinning armature.
I also riverwalk above Niagara Falls late at night, getting hundreds of feet out and looking over the edge.

If I was with you, I'd be getting scorched a little for sure, wanting to get down with that volcano.
You should feel lucky New Zealand is further from western interference, and not known for oil.

John we do have oil reserves but the Greens want it left where it is just like the coal and other stuff, but with one foot in the grave so to speak I don't care either way. Mt Tongariro seems to have gone quite at the moment but...............

JHC! Is there a new movie made in New Zealand that you would recommend?
If you watch "Niagara", an old Marilyn Monroe movie, mostly made in Chippewa,
you'll see where I pass through on bike-hikes, and a bar I played in bands.

That sounds very interesting John I will do a search on google and Youtube.
A NZ Film............. Let me tell you, the middle east is a hot spot of war and death, the US economy is not in good shape (this will affect us all) Israel and Palestine (Hamas) are at it again, North Vietnam is playing with missiles, Egypt has replaced one dictator with another "The Muslim brotherhood" woman are treated as shite by the Taliban etc etc etc and what are the headlines on the NZ news??? A NZ Film "The Hobbits" you just have to wonder at the mentality of Alf Average and more worrying they are allowed to vote every 3 years. Good old NZ.

JHC! Please, don't think I think you don't know, but let me explain something.
Don't worry about the American economy affecting you in New Zealand, unless you want it to.
Hearing hype like that is the same as saying "All roads lead to Rome".
From a Scottish viewpoint, what does that really mean?
It sounds good to us now, and it's something Italian Tourism uses as a slogan.

When Rome was a building empire, they used baked clay tablets to write on and send for military orders,
as well as everything from tax collecting to crucifixions.
When they conquered Egypt, they brought back papyrus paper with them, a big leap in technology.
That made it faster and easier, even to the drawing of maps and military formations,
so the Roman Empire built roads so horse riders could reach military outposts and war fronts.
Those were the original roads leading to Rome, seriously unwanted by locals.

The American dollar used to be gold based, the infamous Fort Knox being the former gold depository.
That was changed a while ago, no longer gold backed, just the paper money it is.
They say the American government is printing 400,000,000 a month to pump up the economy.
The American government subsidized the banking corporations who are indebting the world,
another sign of "all dollars lead to America".

I'd watch the sunset over New Zealand mountains, if I were you, and value that gold above all others.

Yes, you are right John, what prompted my muddled outburst was that this was considered more news worthy than what is happening in the rest of the world, so I am a grumpy old fart this morning ... sorry
I do still wonder at the Universe, Nature and Humanity more so as I grow older and face my own mortality which is the last thing in your mind when you are young.

You forgot LORD OF THE RINGS Colin. I might put in an offer for one of those Hobbit Holes, but I hear the headroom is limited.

I've never sat and watched a "Lord of the Rings" movie, and never read the books.
Now I'll give one a try, knowing it's a New Zealand setting.

Of all the places in the world, my parents sent away for information from New Zealand,
talking about moving there from time to time.

And I got a climate change complaint. What's with the weather prediction for tonight?
Here in Canada, in the middle of the Niagara Peninsula close to Niagara Falls,
a couple of days before December, when it's warm and sunny, no snow or rain or wind,
they're saying it's going to get below freezing tomorrow? What? Freezing?
I better go and pick my last radishes, carrots and tomatoes.
Maybe I'll get to wear my new winter hat I never wore last year, a real sale bargain.
We're also suffering economic climate change. Zeller's is closing, not moving, just over.
The biggest department store in the biggest mall, going going gone.

Freezing cold here and the wind turbines off our coast are............stationary. Just when we need the power the b****y things stop working. W7V One volcanic eruption equals all the man made pollution word wide, for a whole year. I do not say we should not take care of the environment but I do believe nature has its own agenda, and we can do very little about it.

How many believe that climate change is the fault of mankind, if so how much of an impact have we made ?

Those who believe that global warming is caused by mankind are welcome to stop by my office - I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell them:grin:

Wow! What's going on here, this last day of November here in the Niagara Peninsula, Canada?
The first snowfall of the year is snowing so much I can hardly see the Main Street Bridge.
However, that long distance cry of anguish I hear, very alto-bassy,
might be Corno Dolce opening up the dental bill.

Br. JohnWatt,

Actually , the dental bill was quite low - Not at all stratospheric like in the US.
